Purpose of Position

The person who holds this position will provide laboratory-specific assistance required for the function and maintenance of the Nagamoto-Combs’ laboratory. Such assistance includes account-related bookkeeping, placing orders for supplies, and other general
and technical support for the safe and efficient operation of the biomedical research laboratory.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • General and technical support for the safe and efficient operation of biomedical research in the laboratory of Dr. Kumi Nagamoto-Combs. The tasks involve monitoring laboratory supplies and placing orders when needed, managing laboratory safety issues and compliance, managing the conditions of laboratory equipment, including refrigerators and freezers, and keeping records of animal usage and other documentation. Assisting laboratory personnel with mouse behavior testing and other mouse experiments as needed. 
  • Account-related bookkeeping Tasks involve monthly record validation of laboratory funds and tracking the amounts of laboratory-related expenditure. The use of electronic bookkeeping software (at least Microsoft Excel) and communication with the administrative officers are expected. 

Required Competencies

  • Willingness and ability to work with mice and people
  • Ability to listen and follow instructions
  • Ability to use a computer with Windows platform
  • Ability to use Microsoft Office software, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Teams
  • Ability to organize and prioritize tasks
  • Ability to communicate at a professional level in both verbal and written English
  • Understand and adhere to scientific ethics, lab safety procedures and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for the lab
  • Detail oriented and diligent in record keeping

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in the field of Biomedical Sciences
  • Successful completion of a Criminal History Background Check

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science degree in neuroscience, immunology, medical laboratory science, biochemistry, or biology
