Purpose of Position

The Department of Languages & Global Studies (LGS) at the University of North Dakota seeks a part-time instructor to teach introductory level French courses in online asynchronous and/or in-person formats.

Duties & Responsibilities

The successful candidate will contribute to the French program through teaching introductory level French courses (French 101-102) in online asynchronous and/or in-person formats. The successful candidate will also work with and assist the French Program Director with curricular matters.

Required Competencies

  • Native or near-native fluency in French and English
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively teach French language and content courses, embrace new pedagogies, and inspire students
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in French and English
  • Effective interpersonal skills, including the ability to collaborate with faculty, staff, and students
  • Ability to work with and engage diverse students and colleagues

Minimum Requirements

  • Earned M.A. in French language, literature, and cultural studies or relevant field by August 15, 2025
  • Successful completion of a Criminal History Background Check

In compliance with federal law, all persons hired will be required to verify identity and eligibility to work in the US and to complete the required employment eligibility verification form upon hire. This position does not support visa sponsorship for continued employment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in French language, literature, cultural studies or relevant field by August 15, 2025
  • Record of excellence in teaching demonstrated through student evaluations of teaching and statement of teaching philosophy
  • Experience teaching high school or college-level French language courses
  • Experience building and teaching online courses
