Salary/Position Classification

  • $90,000+ annual, Exempt
  • 40 hours per week
  • This position will work onsite.

Purpose of Position

The Assistant Director of Training ensures that our clinical training programs run smoothly, meet all accreditation and regulatory requirements, and delivers high-quality, competency-based education to our trainees.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Administrative Oversight of Training Program 
    • Lead the design and implementation of innovative training programs and initiatives.
    • Continuously assess and refine programming to meet the evolving needs of the community and enhance treatment outcomes
    • Oversee and manage the pre-doctoral internship and/or postdoctoral program, maintaining APPIC accreditation 
    • Provide supervision to both clinical staff and trainees, ensuring seamless operational integration and adherence to organizational policies
    • Train and support new staff in understanding and executing UCC clinical operations within the training program
    • Represent the center at professional meetings and conferences
    • Evaluate and collaborate with the Director to provide constructive feedback to supervisors
    • Engage and collaborate with community partners to enhance and expand the UCC training program
    • Monitor and ensure adequate coverage when supervisees and supervisors are out of the office, maintaining continuity of care 
  • Administrative Oversight of Clinical Operations
    • Supervise and manage the daily operations of clinical services at UCC, ensuring efficient and effective delivery of care
    • Oversee and organize counseling programs, maintaining high standards of therapeutic support
    • Provide expert guidance and support to UCC staff regarding clinical service-related inquiries, updates to operations processes, and clear explanation of changes to foster a collaborative and informed team environment
    • Assist in the development and revision of clinical service policies and procedures, ensuring compliance with best practices and regulatory standards
    • Monitor and coordinate modifications to the electronic health record (EHR) system in collaboration with the Director, ensuring system integrity and functionality
    • Assist in the compilation and analysis of clinical services data, contributing to annual reports, strategic planning, and supplementary reports
    • Train and support new staff in understanding and executing UCC clinical operations and training program requirements. · Represent the center at professional meetings and conferences
    • Act as a backup for administrative coverage and manage the center during the absence of the Director, ensuring continuity of leadership and service delivery
  • Direct Counseling Services
    • Provide counseling services to University students
    • Be available to work off-campus, in-person to students of other ND state universities as needed
    • Provide immediate support for students experiencing a crisis. This includes assessing risk, interventions, and ensuring students receive the necessary care and follow-up
    • Facilitate groups as assigned
    • Collaboratively create treatment plans with clients
    • Uphold the ethical and legal obligation that licensure and profession require
    • Engage in appropriate consultations for care
    • Deliver workshops, seminars, and presentations to promote mental health to campus and community partners
    • Provide clinical supervision to counselors in training to ensure quality clinical client care including review of medical documentation, recordings, and fostering clinical skills and growth
  • Non-Direct Clinical Service
    • Maintains appropriate medical documentation that meets accreditation standard and professional standards
    • Prepare reports, letters and other paperwork necessary to support counseling activities and comply with professional standards
    • Assist in development workshops, seminars, and presentations to promote mental health to campus and community partners
  • Professional Activities, Development and Service
    • Participate in UCC staff meetings to facilitate business operations and ensure high-quality services
    • Engage in activities like self-directed study, attend workshops, seminars, and conferences to stay updated on the latest in counseling practices and mental health research relevant to UCC mission
    • Maintain a license to practice in North Dakota
    • Working with other campus services, faculty, and external partners to coordinate campus initiatives
    • Dedicate time to ensure counseling practices are inclusive and culturally sensitive, including participate in training and development related to diversity, equity, and inclusion 

Required Competencies

  • Strong diagnostic and therapeutic skills.
  • Proficiency in evidence-based treatment modalities.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Cultural competence and the ability to work with diverse populations.

Minimum Requirements

  • Doctorate in Psychology
  • Must be licensed to practice therapy in ND, or be eligible for licensure in ND, as a Licensed Clinical or Counseling Psychologist
  • 3 years' Licensed Clinician experience
  • Successful completion of a Criminal History Background Check

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working in a university counseling center or similar setting
  • Experience with administrative responsibilities and program development in a therapy or related field
  • 3 years' experience supervising licensed clinicians
