Salary/Position Classification

  • $42,000+ Annual, Dependent on Experience, Non-Exempt (Eligible for overtime)
  • 40 hours per week
  • This position will work onsite at UND Grand Forks, ND campus

Purpose of Position

Perform installation, maintenance, and repair of cafeteria, laundry, and miscellaneous equipment in university-owned facilities.

All Facilities Management positions are subject to overtime & callback twenty-four (24) hours a day, seven (7) days a week, as needed/directed by supervisors/directors.

Duties & Responsibilities

Cafeteria Equipment Installation, Maintenance and Repair

  • Install, maintain and repair various commercial cafeteria equipment to include: meat slicers, choppers, warmers, disposals, pre-washers, pulpers, commercial conveyor systems, commercial dishwashing equipment, coffee/espresso makers, juice machines, toasters, microwave ovens, fryers/pressure cookers, convection ovens, gas combi-ovens, and grills
  • Repair/reprogram Micro-market and other vending equipment Coordinate maintenance schedules with UND Dining Services
  • Maintain/repair gas burners/igniters/thermocouples on gas heating systems for commercial ovens, grills, char broilers and fryers

Laundry Equipment Installation, Maintenance and Repair

  • Install, maintain and repair electrical/gas commercial laundry equipment to include various washers, dryers and laundry presses
  • Schedule/perform weekly preventive maintenance

 Miscellaneous Maintenance and Repair

  • Maintain/inspect/repair/replace floor coverings (tile, carpet, etc.), ceiling tile, doors (walk-in, garage, sliding, etc.), windows, furniture, roll-up doors, door closers and battery backup emergency lighting
  • Maintain inventory on cafeteria and laundry equipment
  • Hang bulletin boards, signs, and pictures
  • Install/maintain water and waste lines for cafeteria and laundry equipment, as well as various plumbing fixtures within cafeterias, including faucets, sinks and P-traps
  • Repair steam and water valves to cafeteria equipment
  • Repair vacuum breakers, solenoid valves and steam traps for cafeteria equipment using power tools and equipment
  • Utilize basic knowledge of electrical and plumbing code and coordinate with appropriate trades, as needed
  • Install disconnects on various cafeteria and laundry equipment
  • Troubleshoot and analyze electrical components, utilizing test equipment such as ampere probes and multi-meters Replace electronic boards, contactors and fuses in equipment
  • Install, maintain and service various commercial water pumps

Required Competencies

  • Interact, communicate and collaborate with students, faculty, staff, and co-workers
  • Work independently and as a team and complete necessary training for this job classification
  • Comprehend and follow directions as well as use sound decision-making skills
  • Understand, speak, read and write English well enough to perform the functions of the position; including reading and communicating in regards to work orders, safety instructions
  • Withstand long periods of lifting, pulling, tugging, climbing, kneeling, working with hands overhead, without restrictions
  • Work in buildings containing asbestos materials

Minimum Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Three years’ experience with repairing commercial cafeteria and commercial laundry equipment. General knowledge and experience with basic plumbing, carpentry, electrical and pump repair.
  • Basic computer use; Microsoft Outlook, Excel, and Word
  • Drivers license
  • Successful completion of a Criminal History Background Check

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with UND campus and buildings
  • Experience with AiM, facilities management software
  • Operate scissor, fork, and boom lifts as well as tele-handler
