Purpose of Position

This is a part-time, non-benefitted position. The UND TRIO Upward Bound program is a college access program funded through the US Department of Education that serves and prepares low-income/first generation high school students from specific target schools for college enrollment and success.

Duties & Responsibilities

Upward Bound Summer Program Resident Tutor Advisors (RTAs) work with the UND TRIO Upward Bound Staff to design, assist, implement, and participate in classroom and non-classroom activities throughout each day of the six-week residential summer program. RTAs mentor, supervise, and tutor the Upward Bound students during the residential summer program (May 22nd-July 5th), in which the Upward Bound RTAs live in the summer residence hall (with room and board provided for staff during the on-campus portion), supervising the program participants both in the residence hall, during daily classes, and during afternoon/evening/weekend activities.

Required Competencies

  • Ability to sit and occasionally drive long distances.
  • Ability to assist in the planning and implementation of Upward Bound curriculum materials, lessons, workshops, and activities in the areas of college and career exploration, financial aid, and areas enhancing academic success.
  • Demonstrated excellence in written and interpersonal communication.
  • Ability to lift 25 pounds.

Minimum Requirements

  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Successful completion of criminal history records check
