      • $70,100-$72,700+ Annual, Dependent on Experience, Exempt

      Purpose of Position

      This position is responsible for budget development, financial management, financial analysis, and reporting to senior-level management for units served by the Shared Services Center (SSC). This position works closely with senior leadership, including Deans, AVPs, and Directors, to collaborate on new or changing initiatives as it pertains to the financial impact of their units/divisions. This position will also plan and take a leadership role in the strategic planning and development of the SSC's overarching mission.

      Duties & Responsibilities

      • Assist unit leadership in the strategic resource planning process; summarize complex financial data by providing easy-to-understand analysis that is clear and concise and present recommendations to unit leaders.
      • Prepare financial statements, budget worksheets and respond to special requests from unit leadership in a timely manner, requiring a higher-level unit understanding.
      • Assure compliance with University, NDUS, and state regulations, policies, and procedures related to financial matters.
      • Serve as a subject matter expert in UND Marketplace for the SSC team and departments served and approve payments and funding for goods and services over a set threshold, ensuring that purchases are made in compliance with the Payment and Procurement Services process and procedures.
      • Review payroll and accounting requests for completeness, accuracy, and compliance with organizational and applicable governing-body standards for assigned area(s) of responsibility; prepare or approve appropriate journal entries to record or adjust accounting transactions as appropriate.
      • Manage approval of revenue and expense activity for assigned area(s) of responsibility; determine appropriate account and fund code use for revenue and expenses; guide internal and external billings and deposits related to departmental business transactions; provide historical analysis of revenue and expenses for departments.
      • Develop financial planning processes to prioritize and ensure that short and long-term financial plans are in alignment with unit’s strategic vision; provide adequate, accurate, and timely data and analysis for strategic decision making and operations.
      • Financially advise and provide budget updates to department directors with discussions regarding their financial position, collaboration on items that may impact the budget and analyze the changes needed to minimize the budget impact.
      • Forecast future fiscal requirements based on historical analysis and other pertinent information to assist in the next fiscal year budgeting development; apply budgeting knowledge in developing unit budgets that meet the strategic needs of the unit with financial transparency.
      • Coordinate subsidiary budgets to ensure the overall budget is all-inclusive and that adequate funding will be available, provided budgeted revenue, personnel, and operating expenditure levels are maintained and submitted within established deadlines; coordinate with the unit leaders on budgeting and management of the division's overall finances, including but not limited to student fees, appropriations, other local funds, and Alumni funds.
      • Oversee and manage all aspects of direct reports’ workloads. Identifying and communicating needs, initiation and management of direct report performance evaluations, and providing leadership, support, and guidance on an on-going basis to direct reports; exercise direct oversight of Financial Managers, with responsibility for leading the hiring, onboarding, and ongoing professional development of the Financial Managers. Provide decisive guidance and recommendations on performance evaluations for all indirect reports.
      • Develop a culture that emphasizes strong customer service skills, advocates for continuous process improvement, and strives for best business practices; assist SSC leadership in developing and implementing continuous improvement practices and documenting standardized work processes; exhibit excellent customer service and provide leadership, support, and encouragement to the team; serve as backup for Account Technician and Financial Managers on time-sensitive duties; demonstrate adaptability, positive attitude, critical thinking skills, and value teamwork; attend job-related training sessions provided by UND; other duties as assigned.

      Minimum Requirements

      • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related area of study.
      • Five years of senior-level experience in accounting, finance, budget management, or related field.
      • Proficiency with Microsoft Office software, including Word, Outlook, and, in particular, advanced knowledge of data analysis functions of Excel, with the ability to generate a management summary of the data.
      • Experience advising professionals and/or organizations on financial and business decisions.
      • Supervisory experience.
      • Successful completion of Criminal History Background Check.

      Preferred Qualifications

      • MBA or CPA preferred.
      • Experience in financial analysis and reporting with multiple operational units.
      • Experience with PeopleSoft Finance and HRMS (Human Resources/Payroll) modules.
      • Experience working with an electronic procurement/payment system.
      • Knowledge and experience working with UND policies and procedures.
      • Experience working in higher education.
