Purpose of Position

RecSports Officials are responsible for managing a safe game environment and enforcing all rules and policies of the RecSports program and the Wellness Center.

This is a part-time, non-benefited position. Only UND students are eligible to be hired in this position.

Duties & Responsibilities

Main Responsibilities:

  • Communicate and consistently enforce university, departmental, off-site facility, and RecSports policies and procedures with all participants.
  • Set up and take down court/field.
  • Enforce all rules and policies of the sport.
  • Handle player conflicts professionally and report issues to supervisor.
  • Be on time to RecSports events and be alert for the duration of the game.
  • Check players’ ID cards to see if eligible before every game when needed
  • Check out equipment/jerseys to teams when needed.
  • Record and report scores through RecSports software when needed.
  • Provide assistance with special events and field maintenance.
  • Attend all RecSports and Wellness & Health Promotion required meetings/trainings.
  • Ensure sportsmanship of all participants in the contest area.
  • Complete all cleaning and sanitation tasks as assigned to maintain a safe & healthy environment.
  • Must wear appropriate PPE as directed for specific tasks/duties.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements

  •  Knowledge of all rules of the sport and familiarity with RecSports policies and procedures.
  •  Strong communication skills and a personable attitude.
  • Successful completion of a criminal history background check

In compliance with federal law, all persons hired will be required to verify identity and eligibility to work in the US and to complete the required employment eligibility verification form upon hire. This position does not support visa sponsorship for continued employment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with current RecSports policies and procedures.
  • Technical and detailed knowledge of game rules and officiating techniques.
  • Ability to handle stressful situations effectively.
  • Certification in officiating.
  • Certification in CPR/First Aid/AED.
