Purpose of Position

The ND INBRE grant has a diverse portfolio to develop research infrastructure and health professional pipeline in North Dakota. The purpose of this position is to help formulate and initiate new programs, facilitate the evaluation of existing programs and to assist in program development. This position requires monitoring student progress and career/educational choices following participation in INBRE programs and activities. Coordination of a variety of summer undergraduate research programs is a component of this position. The applicant must be available during the entire summer 10-week session (usually between May 1 and Aug 15). A second component of this position is the coordination of both on-line and in-person death investigation training activities of the forensic pathology section of the department. This will involve interaction with Office of Extended Learning and Center for Instructional and Learning Technologies at UND. Coordination of a variety of continuing education programs will be required for these activities. This position is 100% grant funded.

Duties & Responsibilities

ND INBRE Project Coordination

  • Assist with development, assessment and reporting of evolving programmatic aspects of ND INBRE grant
  • Organize the summer undergraduate program, including recruiting, applications, logistics, programmatic issues, poster session (UND, PUIs, TCUs)
  • Track academic and career outcomes of students involved in all ND INBRE supported undergraduate research programs.
  • Organize evaluation of summer undergraduate program.
  • Assist with submission of annual programmatic reports (RPPR).
  • Interact/communicate with faculty at PUIs/TCUs as needed for programmatic issues.
  • Assist with all aspects of the various and evolving programs, e.g., order supplies, organize travel, assist with student payments.
  • Coordinate annual state-wide ND INBRE Undergraduate Research Symposium
  • Provide data for and assist with new grant/supplement submissions and publications.
  • Maintain and update ND INBRE website.  

Clinical and Translational Science Graduate Program Assistance

  • Assist faculty program coordinator with all aspects of graduate program, as needed.
  • Assist with program evaluation and reporting requirements
  • Communicate with School of Graduate Studies and graduate students in CTS program.  

Forensic Death Investigation Education and Training

  • Oversee online program, answer enrollment questions and work with OEL for delivery of death investigation and forensic on-line education.
  • Obtain and update CE information from approving agencies; maintain CE records.
  • Answer/route student inquiries regarding death investigation course and refer questions as appropriate
  • Upload and assist with replacement or additional lessons/modules to course.
  • Assist with Blackboard and other issues arising with use of the DIT course as a medical school elective.
  • Assist with scheduling in-person presentations as requested.  

Dissemination of information for ND INBRE and Department of Pathology

  • Develop and maintain ND INBRE and Pathology Department websites with assistance of web developer.
  • Publicize new initiatives, e.g. VIDS Academy.
  • Track and publicize accomplishments by INBRE and department personnel.  

Forensic Pathology Fellowship Coordinator

  • Coordinate with the Office of Graduate Medical Education on the logistics of the FP Fellowship position.
  • Assist with logistics of program such as tracking hours, cases, and preparing reports as needed, including use of MedHub software.   

Miscellaneous Departmental Duties

  • Prepare annual reports, and others as requested.
  • Summarize department academic and professional outcomes for annual report to Research Office.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a Science related area
  • Related experience
  • Experience and proficiency using a personal computer, and computer software
  • Must be present (in-house) during the 10-week summer undergraduate sessions, normally falling between May 1 and Aug 15
  • Successful completion of a Criminal History Background Check

• Experience promoting undergraduate research
• Experience with basic and/or clinical science laboratory
