  • $53,000+ Annual, Dependent on Experience, Exempt
  • 40 hours per week
  • This position will work onsite on the Grand Forks, ND campus.  Relocation allowance available! 

Purpose of Position

The Memorial Union Operations Coordinator serves an integral role assisting with the daily management of Memorial Union building operations. The Memorial Union operates seven days a week during the academic year and with modified hours during summer terms, breaks, and holidays. The Coordinator provides daily supervision and management of the Memorial Union Information Desk and student staff and Building Manager student staff who each provide essential front-facing customer service and support to building users. The role oversees the Games Area program/operation, provides supplemental support for event space setups and teardowns, and serves in a support role for building-wide emergency response. This role reports to and assists the Associate Director with essential operations tasks and processes to include: building security, access, and key system management, work order submission, and inventory management.

Duties & Responsibilities

Memorial Union Building Operations - General Overview

  • Normal work schedule will be Monday through Friday: 10:00 AM to 6:30 PM. Flexible exceptions to this schedule may be made to accommodate additional business and operational needs.
  • This role is a leadership position that ensures the smooth operation of the Memorial Union by overseeing student staff, managing use of the facility space and supporting and coordinating schedules events. It requires a balance of physical stamina (for tasks like event setups and facility maintenance) and mental agility (for problem-solving, decision-making, and communication). Flexibility is key as you'll manage daily operations, support emergency responses, and adapt to changing schedules while collaborating with various teams and maintaining a high level of customer service. 

Student Staff Supervision (Building Managers & Information Desk) - General Overview

  • This role involves supervising and developing student staff for the Memorial Union, focusing on hiring, training, and providing ongoing feedback. This role ensures coverage across various shifts, from regular academic periods to holidays/breaks, and supports students in their professional growth through mentorship and opportunities for leadership development. A key responsibility is fostering a positive and productive work environment while guiding students in handling customer service challenges and aligning their tasks with learning outcomes to better prepare them for the workforce.

Memorial Union Student Employment and Training Program - General Overview

  • This role leads the Memorial Union Student Employment Program, overseeing the coordination of student employment teams and committees. Responsibilities include developing training programs, collaborating with supervisors on recognition initiatives, and ensuring student staff positions align with learning outcomes. The role also involves spearheading recruitment efforts, creating marketing materials, and providing backup support for other student staff as needed. A key focus is fostering professional development and enhancing the overall student employee experience through structured programs and evaluations.

Required Competencies

  • Experience with computerized data entry/systems or proficiency in using technology tools relevant to operations management.
  • Ability to multi-task and adapt successfully to changing priorities within a fast-paced, high-energy, customer service setting.
  • Experience with critical thinking, problem-solving, and written and oral communication skills.
  • Possess a student-centered philosophy committed to supporting a work and campus environment focused on campus community building.
  • Experience using standard office equipment to include multi-line phone systems or copiers.
 

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Experience supervising, coaching, advising or mentoring student staff or volunteers within a university or transferable setting.
  • Involvement in or experience with staff or student training programs
  • Experience with building operations, services, or program management or coordination
  • Experience within a fast-paced, customer service driven departmental unit, program or service area.
  • Experience working with Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook
  • Successful completion of a Criminal History Background Check

Preferred Qualifications

  • Two or more years of directly related experience with building operations, services or program management or coordination within a University, hospitality event management or related field.
