Salary/Position Classification

  • $44,300 - $49,802 annual, Exempt
  • This position will work onsite the Grand Forks, ND campus.

Purpose of Position

The UND Licensing Office is responsible for the management, protection, use and promotion of the University’s names, logos, trademarks, and other identifying materials. The office manages relationships with vendors and retail outlets to generate an annual royalty income to the University of North Dakota.

The Licensing Coordinator performs the day-to-day operations of the licensing program and serves as an information resource for the University community and the general public concerning trademark licensing and enforcement. This position also provides support and coordination for all licensing and enforcement activities at UND in order to protect UND’s interests. Enforcement and brand consistency are a priority for UND.

Must have commitment to compliance with all NCAA rules and regulations. Must provide support and encouragement and ensure the safety and well-being of the student-athletes.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Day-to-Day Aspects of Licensing Management
    • Coordinate licensee artwork approval through Brand360 management tool.
    • Review artwork and final products from licensees to ensure a high-level of product quality and brand consistency.
    • Assist with development and coordination of the Dacotah Legacy Collection (DLC).
    • Ensure UND’s licensing policies and procedures are clearly communicated to the public and various campus constituencies.
    • Lead UND’s crafter license program.
    • Strategically partner with Associate AD for Marketing & Communications, the Senior Associate AD for External Operations, UND Marketing & Communications, and others on campus to advance the brand and increase royalties.
    • Duties may require occasional evenings and weekends.
  • Marketing & Promotion
    • Grow royalties including, but not limited to, executing revenue generation initiatives and designing marketing campaigns of licensed products.
    • Assist with the development of relationships with local, regional, and national licensees and retailers to enhance the brand and increase sales of UND branded goods.
    • Study best practices to develop marketing and promotional plans.
    • Other marketing & promotion duties as assigned. 
  • Enforcement
    • Support enforcement activities as directed by the Associate AD for Marketing & Communications, Deputy Athletics Director, and VP of Marketing and Communications.
    • Perform market audits for proper use of names and marks, including identifying improper or non-approved use.
    • Ensure licensees comply with licensing policies and procedures.
    • Assist with licensing infringement enforcement activities, involving General Counsel, licensing agent, and others as necessary.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelors degree. August 2026 graduates will be considered, degree must be received prior to start date.
  • Experience working in marketing, merchandising, and/or team shops with a college, professional or semi-professional sports team.
  • Proficient experience and skills level in use of Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint.
  • Valid Driver’s License.
  • Successful completion of Criminal History Background Check.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Direct experience in a licensing program including the promotion, protection and management of trademarks and knowledge of laws and regulations to trademarking and licensing.
  • Current or past membership in Intercollegiate Collegiate Licensing Association (ICLA).
  • Experience working with Collegiate Licensing Company or any similar licensing agencies.
  • Experience with Brand Manager 360, Trademarx Online, or similar art approval system.
  • Experience with brand and identity guidelines.
  • Experience working with licensees and retailers.
  • Experience working in collegiate athletics or professional sports.
