Purpose of Position

This is a part-time, non-benefited position. Only UND students are eligible to be hired in this position.

The Marketing and Communications department serves as the backdrop and face of Fighting Hawks Athletics. Our commitment to our fans:

Federal Work Study and non-work study applicant’s welcome
Federal Work Study Compensation: $14/Hour
The compensation amount for non-work study is dependent on length of position (full year or one semester), budgets, and gameday assistant vs. marketing assistant

Duties & Responsibilities

There are two options within our internship. One option, our marketing assistant offers the opportunity to have hands-on experience behind the scenes (in the office) and on gamedays. The second option, the Gameday Assistant offers hands on experience on gamedays only.

  • MARKETING AND COMMUNICATIONS [MARCOM] ASSISTANT 
    • All marketing and communications assistants will receive a long-term project or sport designation. This will be determined prior to the fall season and will be based on seniority, availability and interest. Sport designations and long-term projects can include being a lead for football, volleyball, soccer, men’s basketball, women’s basketball, hockey, men’s tennis, women’s tennis, softball, or track and field. Long-term projects can include NoDak Nation (Email, social media and promotion), Jr. Champions Kids Club (Email, special events, registration, promotion, scheduling), Photo database management (Influencer and Canto). 
    • Work with sport supervisor to lead game presentation efforts for assigned lead sports 
    • Assist with social media planning, content creation and postings 
    • Represent UND Athletics at on- and off-campus events (UND Pep Rally, Fan Fests, Student Tailgate Pick-up, etc.) 
    • Conduct market research 
    • Mascot handler for on and off campus events 
    • Proof Reading Media Guides, etc. 
    • Record Management 
    • Creating Photo Albums on the website 
    • Updating student-athlete bios 
    • Other duties as assigned 
    • Work a minimum of 5 hours in the office each week during Fall semester and a minimum of 3 hours in the office each week in the Spring semester.
  • GAMEDAY ASSISTANT
    • Execution of athletic promotions for football, volleyball, soccer, men’s basketball, women’s basketball, hockey, men’s tennis, women’s tennis, softball and track and field, NoDak Nation and Jr. Champions 
    • Represent UND Athletics at on- and off-campus events (UND Pep Rally, Fan Fests, Student Tailgate Pick-up, etc.) 
    • Other duties as assigned 
    • Live stating and posting on social media during the game 

Minimum Requirements

  • Marketing, communications public relations or advertising major (or related field)
  • Willingness to learn or current knowledge of Adobe software (Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator)
  • Students looking for a career in marketing, live entertainment and/or athletics are highly encouraged to apply.
  • Ability to work nights, weekends and holidays
  • Interest and Knowledge of collegiate sports
  • Strong communication skills (phone, email, etc.)
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Xcel, Word, PowerPoint)
  • Ability to work ALL home football games (visit Fightinghawks.com for schedule)
  • If hired as a Marketing Assistant, the ability to cover ALL games for your lead sport 
  • Successful completion of a Criminal History Background Check
