Laundry Worker/Delivery/Academic Custodian

  • $34,265 annual, Non-Exempt (Eligible for overtime)

Purpose of Position

Responsible for performing custodial work required for the cleaning, upkeep, and maintenance of buildings. Moves furniture and equipment; collects waste, paper and recycling materials; performs other custodial duties as required. Responsible to Sort, fold, wrap laundry and label packages, Weigh and load machines, Runs laundry route and operates laundry truck..

All Facilities Management positions are subject to callbacks twenty-four (24) hours a day, seven (7) days a week Weekend work as required

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Mopping, sweeping, vacuuming, shampooing, and renewing floor finishes.
  • Washing windows, blinds, mirrors, walls, doors, and woodwork. Cleaning and dusting furniture, exhibit cases, fixtures, appliances, and related furnishings.
  • Cleaning and disinfecting rest room in public and /or residential areas. Maintaining a continuous supply of paper in all dispensers.
  • Collecting and picking up waste and recyclable materials, both inside and outside of buildings.
  • May perform power washing, leaf removal, moving snow and may be required to operate a snow blower.
  • Performs minor maintenance to equipment.
  • Responsible for reporting minor and major maintenance and equipment issues to appropriate personnel.
  • Removal of snow from sidewalks, cleaning gutters, drains spouts, and grounds outside.
  • Moving and setting up furniture and equipment for events or departments.
  • Locking and unlocking doors main building doors as required.
  • Possible State Fleet vehicle use.
  • Assist in training new employees on the day-to-day operation of the assigned area.
  • Responsible for entering labor hours in our computerized program, Aim.
  • Responsible for submitting timely leave requests to the supervisor.
  • Responsible for checking and reading University email account on a regular basis.
  • Must follow University policies and procedures.
  • May be required to use a University issued cell phone.
  • Responsible for University keys.
  • Will submit supply requests and work orders.
  • May be responsible in assisting supervising students
  • Ability to operate commercial laundry equipment ex: washers, dryers, press, scale
  • Sorting, folding, pressing, labeling and wrapping a variety of garments and articles in an efficient manner.
  • Weigh and load machines in a safe and efficient manner
  • Monitor machine operation for mechanical problems to prevent major damage to equipment and submit work orders as needed.
  • Records incoming/outgoing laundry in an accurate manner
  • Operates delivery truck, pick up and deliveries; and assures the route is completed in a safe and efficient manner
  • Other duties as assigned 

Required Competencies

  • Comprehend, follow direction and use sound decision-making skills; excellent analytical/organization skills
  • Excellent verbal/written communication skills; ability to interact, communicate and deal w/students, faculty, staff and co- workers
  • Withstand long periods of lifting, pulling, tugging, climbing, kneeling, working with hands overhead, without restrictions
  • Complete necessary training for this job classification, as needed
  • Subject to Criminal History Background Check.

Minimum Requirements

  • HS Diploma or GED or equivalent work experience
  • Basic computer skills
  • Valid drivers license
  • Successful completion of a Criminal History Background Check

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with UND Campus and Buildings
  • Experience using Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Experience with AiM
  • Experience in commercial laundry.
