  • $165,000+ annual, dependent upon relevant experience, Exempt
  • 40 hours per week
  • This position will work onsite the EERC campus.

As an Assistant Director for Geoscience and Engineering, you will contribute to the success of the organization by performing one or more of the following:

  • Lead a team focused on subsurface engineering for development and deployment of advanced energy technology across applied research projects covering geological storage for fluids such as CO2, H2, and hydrocarbons; enhanced oil recovery; geothermal energy development; and other energy-related technologies.
  • Effectively execute and lead multiple projects concurrently, while ensuring that project deliverables are completed according to client expectations within established timelines and budgets.   
  • Develop and enhance client relations; develop, manage, and mentor personnel; manage projects, proposal development, budgets, and the preparation of technical reports, conference papers, and peer-reviewed journal articles; and deliver technical presentations.
  • Some travel is required.

Required Competencies

  • Established expertise in subsurface engineering, geoscience, or closely related field.
  • Excellent and professional interpersonal skills to communicate and work with internal technical researchers, leadership, and external clients.
  • Demonstrated passion and experience in leading a team of engineers and/or scientists.
  • Adaptable approach, with ability to evaluate and integrate new technologies and methods into project work and proposals.
  • Excel at working both individually and as part of a diverse team.
  • Excellent time management skills with the ability to work on multiple projects and responsibilities concurrently.
  • Track record of leading multidisciplinary teams.
  • Organized, detail-oriented, and strong on follow-through.
  • Commitment to lifelong learning and the development and refinement of the skills of EERC personnel.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant area.
  • 10 years of professional experience in geoscience and/or subsurface engineering (e.g., geological engineering, reservoir engineering, petroleum engineering, geophysical engineering, and/or mechanical or chemical engineering with subsurface experience).
  • Demonstrated experience with subsurface projects in the areas of petroleum production, geological storage or disposal of fluids, or geothermal energy development.
  • Experience that includes leading projects, proposal development, and report writing.
  • Cover letter and resume or curriculum vitae.
  • Successful completion of a Criminal History Background Check

Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced degree.
  • Experience leading or providing senior oversight on multimillion dollar research efforts.
  • Experience securing major research awards.
  • Experience working with subsurface reservoir characterization, modeling, and simulation software packages.
  • Experience leading field-based reservoir characterization activities.
  • Experience leading field-based pilot-scale subsurface injection and/or production activities.
  • 5 years of experience in a leadership role.
