  • $48,700 - $57,364 annual, Exempt
  • 40 hours per week
  • This position will work onsite.

Purpose of Position

The Assistant Athletics Director for Operations will be expected to serve the Betty Engelstad Sioux Center (BESC) with equipment and facility operation support for Soccer, Volleyball, Men’s Basketball and Women’s Basketball. This position will also be expected to maintain organization among the primary facility users while building and managing a facility master calendar in conjunction with Ralph Engelstad Arena (REA), while maintaining and growing revenue streams of outside rental within UND Athletics and the facility areas it supports (Pollard Center, Albrecht Field, Memorial Village). This position will be responsible for day-to-day game day operations & management of the staff of student workers to assist with fulfilling the requirements (game day setup and laundry). Must have a commitment to compliance with all NCAA rules and regulations. Must provide support and encouragement and ensure the safety and well-being of the student athletes.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Athletic Facility Operations and Coordination 
    • Oversight of competition and practice facilities for Volleyball, Soccer, Men’s and Women’s Basketball.
    • Work with teams in BESC on scheduling in conjunction with the Ralph Engelstad Arena to ensure 100% transparency from team to facility to department.
    • Comply with applicable rules and regulations governing safe and sanitary environments.
    • Utilize security resources.
    • Supervise and maintain accurate documentation for assigned sports in accordance with established UND organizational policies and procedures in order to substantiate accountability.
    • Assist with the development and implementation of policies and protocols of assigned sports related to continuous evaluation and routine checks for proper fit of equipment (rim tests).
    • Work with operations staff to assist on an as needed basis for the other sport programs and athletics facilities.
    • Work with Director of Maintenance & Operations at the REA to assist on an as needed basis for athletics.
  • Game Operations and Facility Management 
    • Responsible for day-to-day game operations.
    • Assist in the development and implementation of policies and procedures related to athletics game operations.
    • Understand, adhere and enforce safety procedures to include Summit League, Missouri Valley Football Conference (MVFC), National Collegiate Hockey Conference (NCHC) & NCAA compliance.
    • Serve as UND Athletics representative and main point of contact, along with the applicable sport director of operations, with opposing teams within the BESC also to include soccer and the Alerus Center.
    • Meet and greet all opposing teams competing in the BESC and Alerus Center.
    • Oversee and manage game day setup of competition facilities for Football, Volleyball, Soccer, and Men’s & Women’s Basketball teams.
    • Supervise locker room setup for opponents and officials in the BESC and Alerus Center.
    • Supervise and direct all laundry services for UND Volleyball, Soccer, and Men’s & Women’s Basketball teams.
    • Supervise and direct laundry services for opponents when requested.
    • As assigned, initiate, prepare, and obtain appropriate signatures for game contracts and ensure legal counsel review. 
  • Game Day Manager for Assigned Sports 
    • Serve as game day manager in charge of home athletic competition. This role demands oversight, discretion and independent judgement in matters related to game operations and must analyze and recommend changes to associated policies.
    • Ensure all game day guidelines and regulations set forth by the conference and/or the NCAA are upheld. This includes, but is not limited to, liaison with officials, working with visiting team arrival and departure, and maintaining facility compliance as it relates to game day.
    • Recognize violations in UND and NCAA policies and provide applicable supervision in regard to NCAA compliance.
    • Must have commitment to compliance and all NCAA rules and regulations.
  • Team Equipment and Coordination
    • Oversee all laundry services for assigned teams.
    • Supervise and direct all day-to-day facility equipment needs for BESC programs.
    • Assist with the development and implementation of policies and protocols related to assigned sports equipment/apparel by following UND/AEMA established guidelines.
    • Assist with annual team apparel/equipment inventories for assigned teams through Adidas and storage as needed.
    • Assist Deputy Athletics Director on as needed basis for all athletic teams and their equipment needs.
  •  Supervision and Management 
    • Supervise and direct the hiring and management of student workers to assist department as necessary.
    • Instruct, direct, and train student workers on processes to comply with athletics hiring protocols.
    • Abide by the University Payroll timeline for processing and submitting hourly reporting forms.
    • Sole oversight of scheduling student workers to assist with completion of tasks assigned.
    • Make decisions related to day-to-day operations for assigned sports.
    • Analyze and solve problems independently.
    • Maintain strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies within a diverse community.
    • Understand, adhere, and enforce safety procedures.
    • Work in high intensity, deadline driven environment.

Required Competencies

  • Must have effective professional working relationship with student-athletes, staff, administration, alumni, and general public.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication (verbal and written), and computer skills.
  • Ability to multi-task, organize, and prioritize.
  • Ability to teach and work with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
  • Must have commitment to NCAA compliance and follow all NCAA, conference and und rules and regulations.
  • Must have commitment to academic success of student-athletes.
  • Must provide support and encouragement and ensure the safety and well-being of the student athletes including having a valid driver’s license.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • 1 year of athletics operations work experience.
  • Student and/or intern supervisory experience.
  • Experience using Microsoft Word and Excel professionally.
  • Valid Driver’s License.
  • Successful completion of criminal history background check.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 3 or more years of athletics operations work experience.
  • Work experience at an NCAA Division I institution.
  • Work experience in game day management of athletic contests.
  • Proficiency with athletic gameday experience (i.e. DVSport).
