Purpose of Position

This position supports forensic investigations on a part-time basis, taking digital images, recording scene observations, interviewing witnesses, and interacting with individuals from the medical community to obtain confidential medical history and records of the deceased.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Attend and process death scenes within UND Forensic Pathology Service area, meeting requirements and standards set by UND Forensic Pathology Office. This will involve some night, evening, weekend and holiday duties

  • Review of death investigations for epidemiology accuracy, incomplete findings. Correct with primary source data. Recommend training modifications:
    • Ongoing investigations for all cases to be sure all reports are gathered to include, Law enforcement, EMS, hospital med records, and other reports pertaining to the case.
    • Add additional forms to cases in MDI such as suicide form, fall form, firearm form, or whatever additional form that is pertinent to the case.
    • Develop QA form and check all cases entered in MDI to ensure all investigators are entering the proper data to include body tracking
    • Contact our doctors when the investigation of a case is complete so they can complete the case when toxicology is back 

  • Coordinate fellowship regulations, ACGME requirements, applicants. Train fellows in death scene investigations when program initiates

  • Coordination of student rotations on forensic pathology
  • Other Duties as Assigned:
    • General maintenance of air handlers and fire suppression system
    • General maintenance of equipment in the facility 

Required Competencies

• Manual dexterity is required for operation of equipment and scene investigation
• Must be able to drive safely at night and in inclement weather
• Must be able to see, hear, read, and interpret information and draw logical conclusions

Minimum Requirements

• Associate's degree in science, nursing, laboratory field, or related field
• Valid driver's license
• Previous experience using Microsoft Office software including Word, Excel, and Outlook
• Must be available to work day shift of 8am - 4pm and/or evening shift 4pm - 8am
• Successful completion of a Criminal History Background Check

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in EMS, medical field, law enforcement, social work, autopsy or mortuary science
