Teaching Assistant Professor, Biology

Purpose of Position

This 12-month teaching assistant professor position will be responsible for developing self-paced, enroll-anytime online sections of our introductory Biology courses for majors and non-majors. In addition to teaching these courses, the candidate will also teach semester-based, asynchronous, online introductory courses. There is also a possibility of teaching some upper-level, online courses as needed. These courses support not only on-campus students but also fulfill requirements for many online majors offered in other departments.

Duties & Responsibilities

The successful applicant will receive a contract with an approximate distribution of 95% teaching and 5% service effort.

  • Develop online, self-paced, enroll anytime introductory biology courses.
  • Teach other semester-based online introductory courses over Fall, Spring, and Summer semesters, with the possibility of teaching other biology courses as well
  • Collaborate with instructors of the on-campus, in-person introductory courses to ensure courses provide equivalent learning outcomes
 

Required Competencies

  • Ability to interact with culturally diverse colleagues and students
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, including evidence of the ability to teach, inspire, and mentor students
  • Ability to use current methods of teaching, including online delivery

Minimum Requirements

  • M.S. in Biology or related discipline
  • Successful completion of a Criminal History Background Check

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in Biology or related discipline
  • Prior experience teaching college courses
  • Evidence of ability to teach introductory biology courses online
  • Evidence of ability to teach additional courses, such as Genetics
  • Student course evaluations or other evidence showing positive teaching history and student interactions.
