Purpose of Position

This is a part-time, non-benefited position. Only UND students are eligible to be hired in this position.

Assist University of North Dakota researchers in developing methods to utilize industrial residues for carbon dioxide (CO2) capture.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Conduct laboratory tests to assess the CO2 capture efficacy of industrial residues
  • Perform experimental analyses on materials using advanced material characterization tools before/after processing to identify physical and chemical changes
  • Assist in outreach activities to promote Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) 

Required Competencies

  • Educational Background: Currently enrolled as a student pursuing a degree in either Chemistry, Engineering, Geography, or related STEM disciplines
  • Interdisciplinary Understanding: Appreciation for interdisciplinary approaches, with the ability to connect scientific concepts with social and economic implications of using industrial wastes to capture CO2
  • Communication Skills: Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, for collaboration with team members and potential outreach activities

Minimum Requirements

  • Academic Standing: Must be in good academic standing
  • Enrollment Status: Currently enrolled as a student at the University of North Dakota during the term of employment
  • Availability: Ability to commit 10-20 hours per week on tasks
  • Teamwork: Ability to work collaboratively with a diverse team of researchers and professionals.
  • Initiative: Initiative and eagerness to learn in a research setting
  • Ethical Considerations: Awareness of ethical considerations in scientific research, including safety protocols and responsible conduct
  • Interest in Outreach: For positions involving outreach, a demonstrated interest in engaging with disadvantaged or minority communities and an understanding of social science concepts as they pertain to furthering equity and inclusion for all
  • Technical Proficiency: Basic familiarity with Microsoft Office and willingness to learn new software programs
  • Successful completion of a Criminal History Background Check
