Salary/Position Classification

  • $78,000 - $80,000 annual, Exempt
  • 40 hours per week
  • This position will work onsite the Grand Forks, ND campus. Relocation Allowance Available! 

Purpose of Position

This individual will work with the Director of Institutional Effectiveness and Accreditation to build and maintain an efficient and effective assessment system for the stakeholders at the University, primarily focused on the assessment of student learning. The position will provide expertise and support for academic and cocurricular programs related to the assessment of student learning and is responsible for assisting those programs with continuous improvement efforts. The Senior Specialist of Assessment & Analytics will also provide training for and collaborate with programs to lead data-informed decision-making efforts to improve outcomes for students. The individual in this position will oversee the assessment management software system for the University and serve on the University Assessment Committee.

Duties & Responsibilities

Assessment Activities

  • Document the ongoing annual assessment process at the institutional-level for academic programs, including Essential Studies, undergraduate, and graduate programs, as well as cocurricular programs.
  • Develop resources for academic programs related to outcomes assessment and curriculum mapping.
  • Build and promote a culture of comprehensive assessment at UND by assisting the ongoing university-wide evaluation process that identifies and assesses expected outcomes across academic and cocurricular units in line with the mission and goals at UND.
  • Work with the University Assessment Committee to effectively and efficiently conduct the annual assessment review cycle for across academic and cocurricular units in accordance with the University Assessment Plan.
  • Collect and maintain a library of assessment materials and current resources and information about national assessment issues for use within the office and by campus stakeholders.

Assessment Management System

  • Manage and oversee the University’s assessment management system, offering technical support, troubleshooting, updating users, and creating support materials for users.
  • Provide development and training opportunities for faculty related to the assessment management system and the assessment of student learning.

Analytics

  • Communicate key points to stakeholders by constructing data tables, graphics, and reports/dashboards for succinct and meaningful consumption. 

Professional Development and Other Duties as Assigned

  • Develop the necessary skills and knowledge through professional development opportunities and dissemination of assessment knowledge through conference presentations and/or appropriate publications.
  • Assist with University-level accreditation as needed.

Required Competencies

  • Demonstrated problem solving and strategic thinking skills.
  • Experience with establishing rapport with a variety of individuals, including office staff, faculty, and other members of the UND community.
  • Strong project management skills.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Willingness to learn new skills to fill existing skill gaps.
  • Proficiency and understanding of assessment methods, assessment design and implementation, and program review.
  • Proficiency in Qualtrics or other survey/data collection instruments.
  • Demonstrated experience with conducting original research related to assessment, program review, or a related field of interest.
  • Ability to create and present workshops and presentations to a variety of audiences.
  • Proficiency in collecting data and creating visualizations in a dashboard format (e.g. Excel, Power BI).
  • Demonstrated experience with data analysis, including knowledge of descriptive and inferential statistical techniques.
  • Demonstrated experience with data analysis software, such as SPSS or R.
  • Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively with campus stakeholders from a variety of different areas.
  • Demonstrated ability to tell a story through data and communicate those results to a wide audience of stakeholders.
  • Experience working with multiple projects concurrently.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Must be highly organized and self-directed.

Minimum Requirements

  • Master’s degree in Higher Education, Curriculum and Instruction, Educational Psychology or related field.
  • One year of experience with assessment.
  • High proficiency in using the Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook.
  • Strong experience and skills with research methods, statistical procedures, data analysis and reporting.
  • Experience with data visualization (e.g. Excel, PowerBI).
  • Experience using statistical software (e.g., SPSS, R).
  • Successful completion of a Criminal History Background Check

Preferred Qualifications

  • Doctorate in Higher Education, Curriculum and Instruction, Educational Psychology or related field.
  • Three years of experience with assessment, preferably in higher education.
  • Experience with assessment practices related to direct and indirect assessment, including developing rubrics, surveys, conducting focus groups, and benchmarking activities.
  • Experience with using and training faculty and staff on an assessment management system.
  • Experience working with internal and external stakeholders including departments and divisions within higher education.
  • Experience planning, organizing, directing, and implementing higher education institution strategic plans.
  • Experience with survey design, administration, and reporting.
  • Experience with using a learning management system (e.g. Blackboard).
  • Experience preparing high-level quantitative and qualitative analyses of data that focus on critical academic metrics relevant to the higher education community.
