Salary/Position Classification

  • $53,500 hourly, Non-Exempt (Eligible for overtime)
  • 40 hours per week
  • This position will work onsite the Grand Forks, ND campus.

Purpose of Position

The Network Analyst provides high-quality IT support to the University of North Dakota campus and its constituents in a timely, customer-focused manner. It also oversees and serves as the liaison between UND and vendors managing or supporting UND's
network. The Network Analyst assists in planning, implementing, and documenting UND's network infrastructure and upgrades, stays current on network technologies, and collaborates with IT professionals to ensure UND's network meets operational needs.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Network Systems Support
    • Evaluate problems, determine whether outside support is necessary, and route accordingly. 
    • Utilize network management tools for delegated management and troubleshooting. 
    • Monitor network activity and identify intrusion attempts, significant bottlenecks, or anything else affecting network performance and security. 
    • Monitor and test network performance and provide network performance statistics and reports. 
    • Provide Tier 1 network troubleshooting guidance and training to IT staff across the university. 
    • Respond to incoming calls regarding network connectivity problems. 
    • Oversee the ongoing design, operation, optimization, and upgrading of the college’s local area network, wide area network connections, and related systems (e.g. network defenses, network appliances, etc.). 
    • Participate in on-site analysis, diagnosis, and resolution of complex network problems for various end users. 
    • Coordinate efforts with networking vendors and outsourcing agencies, maintaining good relationships and overseeing “scope of work” contracts for outside assistance in network upgrades, wiring installations, etc.
  • Planning and Documentation
    • Identify and document specific departmental network needs and ensure service level agreements are achieved. 
    • Aid in development of business continuity and disaster recovery plans and maintain current knowledge of plan executables. Respond to emergency network outages in accordance with business continuity and disaster recovery plans. 
    • Prepare and ensure accuracy of documentation, procedures manuals, and knowledgebase articles. 
    • Follow UIT’s Asset and Change Management Processes for network assets. Create, maintain, and adhere to procedures for logging, reporting, and statistically monitoring network data.
  • Education and Training
    • Stay abreast of current networking technologies through training courses, individual study time and professional reading.
    • Keep informed of new technology and recognize potential impact upon UND end users. 
    • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of current and future technologies and best practices by participating in educational opportunities, reading professional publications, and participating in professional organizations.
  • Other Duties
    • Complete timesheets by the due date and track time in the tracking system 
    • Document and update projects in TeamDynamix to track project progress 
    • Participate in on-call rotation 
    • Develop and maintain contact with people in key positions pertinent to duties and responsibilities 
    • Attend conferences, webinars, and seminars 
    • Remain as current as possible with new technology 
    • Research new products and services that may benefit supported departments 
    • Attend departmental meetings 
    • Serve on campus-wide committees and participate in campus-wide meetings when applicable 
    • Maintain confidential information in all aspects of position in accordance with applicable compliance requirements (FERPA, HIPPA, PCI Compliance, etc.)

Required Competencies

  • Knowledge of technical writing and documentation;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and excellence in customer service;
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to troubleshoot network issues efficiently;
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills for collaborating with team members and documenting technical processes;
  • Ability to communicate with non-technical and technical users;
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize workload in a fast-paced environment;
  • Ability to participate in on-call rotations and on occasion, nights and weekends.

Minimum Requirements

  • Associate’s degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, or equivalent combination of experience and education or certifications.
  • Export Control Compliance: This position requires compliance with U.S. government export control laws and regulations. Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supporting enterprise-level networks and wireless infrastructures;
  • Experience working in an environment required to maintain confidentiality such as HIPAA, FERPA, and PCI Compliance;
  • Experience with different operating systems, such as Windows, Linux, and macOS;
  • Experience with network security protocols and practices, including firewall management and intrusion detection systems.
