Purpose of Position

The UND Associate Vice President for Finance (AVPF) office is hiring a Senior Business Analyst/Special Projects.  

The Associate Vice President for Finance serves as a resource for the Vice President for Finance/COO by providing advice, information and recommendations on the overall operation of the division; formulating and administering policies and developing long-range financial goals, objectives and plans; and working closely with the campus community on special projects/programs. Areas reporting to the AVPF unit directors include Resource Planning & Allocation, Procurement & Payment Services, Shared Service Center, Controller, Treasury, Regional Shared Service Center, Print and Mail center, and Athletics Business.

The Senior Business Analyst/Special Projects will assist the AVPF unit with high-level projects, integration challenges with different subsidiary system interfaces, and process improvement initiatives.  The position must work extremely independently and be able to make high-level decisions. Some duties will be recurring while others will be as projects and needs are identified. Some projects may be at the direction of the Vice President for Finance/COO or the Director of Resource Planning & Allocation.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Manage high level data analysis projects including reporting tools and documentation; Identify, organize, analyze and interpret trends from data
  • Use and expand the current UND reporting tool for robust reporting
  • Lead and/or assist departments in process improvement strategies and implementation employing process improvement methodologies and innovative, best-in-class thinking
  • Prepare data analysis and reporting as needed for Associate VP for Finance, VP for Finance/COO & Director of Resource Planning & Allocation
  • May be assigned to departments outside of AVPF to assist with special projects related to finance and operations
  • Facilitate and lead discussions and solutions to integration challenges with the many different subsidiary system interfaces
  • Work with the CBOs for the units to identify impactful areas and opportunities for impact on their future forecasting and budgeting
  • Collaborate and build relationships and partnerships with key stakeholders involved in projects
  • Attend meetings and provide overview of outcomes and issues to AVPF, VPFO/COO or Director of Resource Planning & Allocation
  • As AVPF areas experience vacancies or coverage issues, use comprehensive knowledge of finance and operations areas to cover duties/tasks that need to be completed to ensure business objectives and expectations are met (floater); work with minimal supervision and analyze duties for possible process inefficiencies

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in accountancy or related field
  • CPA, or MBA in lieu of CPA
  • 5 years of higher education experience
  • Experience managing multiple projects with competing deadlines
  • Experience with Microsoft Office, including Word, Outlook, and in particular, advanced knowledge of data analysis functions of Excel with ability to generate a summary of the data
  • Successful completion of a Criminal History Background Check

Preferred Qualifications

  • Higher education leadership experience with high-level decision-making requirements
  • Experience with ISO, Lean, or Six Sigma principles
  • NDUS financial-related experience
  • Project management and implementation experience
