Purpose of Position

Rock Wall Attendants are responsible for assisting participants with rock wall equipment, belaying climbers, and creating a safe and fun environment. The Rock Wall Attendant will accomplish this by providing information, training, and supervision. You are on duty to stress safety and encourage patrons.

This is a part-time, non-benefited position. Only UND students are eligible to be hired in this position.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Follow and enforce safe climbing techniques during open climbing for both employees and participants.
  • Follow and enforce all Safety, Participant, and Employee policies of Team Wellness & Health Promotion.
  • Assess and maintain a safe and clean climbing environment during each shift
  • Maintain knowledge to correctly tie and check knots for safety and usage.
  • Track Rock Wall participation through the use of facility management software.
  • Complete shift reports, safety checks, and checklists during each shift as necessary.
  • Assist in the development, execution and promotion of rock wall events and competitions.
  • Attend and actively participate in all Rock Wall and Team Wellness meetings/trainings
  • Complete all cleaning and sanitation tasks as assigned to maintain a safe & healthy environment.
  • Must wear appropriate PPE as directed for specific tasks/duties.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements

  • Must be available during the following time weeks: June 9th-11th (8am-5pm), and June 23-25th (8am-5pm)
  • Basic knowledge of climbing techniques.
  • Ability to teach effectively in one-on-one or group situations.
  • Display strong communication skills
  • Ability to push and pull 50 pounds of weight.
  • Certification in CPR/First Aid/AED, or ability to obtain within 2 weeks of hire. (Training provided by the Wellness Center at no cost for employees)
  • Successful completion of a Criminal History Background Check

In compliance with federal law, all persons hired will be required to verify identity and eligibility to work in the US and to complete the required employment eligibility verification form upon hire. This position does not support visa sponsorship for continued employment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of advanced rock climbing techniques and safe practices.
  • Experience with outdoor, sport, lead, or traditional climbing.
  • PCIA (Professional Climbers In America ) Certification
