Purpose of Position

The RIAS Lab Manager will manage the daily operation of the RIAS Human Factors Lab. This involves the day-to-day operations, participating in research (in-lab and in-field), collaborative partner with RIAS leadership and primary point of contact for vendors. The mission of the RIAS Human Factors Lab is to reduce barriers in the cycle of research for graduate and undergraduate students.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Daily Lab Management and Oversight
    • Lab team organization and leadership.
    • Supervision of RIAS Human Factors lab staff.
    • Ensure equipment readiness and manage the deployment of equipment to and from the field.
    • Principle point of contact for all vendors with equipment located in or supporting the lab and its research.
    • Design, implement, and oversee the laboratory’s quality management program. 
  • Laboratory Equipment Management
    • Exploration of new technologies to support human factor research associated with RIAS mission.
    • Subject matter expert on the installation, use, and maintenance of network and systems (e.g. TAK network) and of all lab equipment for data gathering (e.g. from human subjects).
    • Train users in the correct use of equipment.
    • Ensure industry standards and safety regulations. 
  • Reporting
    • Development of laboratory status reports (i.e. Annual, monthly, quarterly).
    • Management of equipment availability
    • Development of useful life, replacement, maintenance schedules

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in STEM field science, including psychology and human behavior sciences, technology, engineering, mathematics or other relevant degree field of study.
  • 1-year supervisory experience.
  • Experience with basic information technology (IT) capabilities, such as networking (wired and wireless), data management, data transfer, power supply, asset upgrades, connectivity, data safeguarding, information security, troubleshooting.
  • Export Control Compliance:
    This position requires compliance with U.S. government export control laws and regulations. Preferred Qualifications

  • Masters degree in relevant field of study
  • 1 year experience in human factors psychology lab setting
  • 2+ years supervisory experience
  • Experience with the following research equipment: eye tracking systems (worn, screen based, vehicle mounted; EEG systems; data analysis software (e.g. Tobii Pro Lab, iMotions)
  • Experience with Team Awareness Kit (TAK) and the establishment and maintenance of a TAK network
  • Experience with Live, Virtual, and Constructive research environments
