Salary/Position Classification

  • $65,000-$75,000 annual, Exempt
  • 40 hours per week
  • This position will work onsite the Grand Forks, ND campus.

Purpose of Position

This position will require the Research Assistant Professor to work under the leadership of Dr. Colin Combs in the Department of Biomedical Sciences and manage a project related to understanding the reciprocal relationship between cancer and Alzheimer’s disease using a transgenic mouse model of Alzheimer’s disease and chemically induced colorectal cancer to study sex differences in both
Alzheimer’s disease and cancer. The study will require mechanistic dissection of the relationships between the two diseases and any sex differences using histologic, molecular, and biochemical approach.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Manage a research project related to interactions between cancer and Alzheimer’s disease using mouse models.
  • Design and execute experimental approaches to test hypotheses related to colorectal cancer and Alzheimer’s disease.
  • Interpret research outcomes and prepare/publish manuscripts related to colorectal cancer and Alzheimer's disease.
  • Prepare and submit principal investigator extramural grant submissions.
  • Participate in data collection and grant writing for additional laboratory proposals.
  • Participate in additional collaborative research projects within the laboratory.
  • Supervise and mentor undergraduate and graduate students.
  • Participate in laboratory meetings through discussion and presentation.
  • Present research findings and local and national conferences. 

Minimum Requirements

  • Ph.D. in biomedical sciences or a related field.
  • Experience working with mouse models of Alzheimer's disease
  • Experience working with mouse models of colorectal cancer
  • Experience in bioinformatics analysis
  • Experience in histologic and biochemical analysis of the brain and colon
  • Experience studying sex differences in cancer and Alzheimer’s disease
  • Successful completion of a Criminal History Background Check

Preferred Qualifications

  • 5 years research experience after the award of a Ph.D
  • Published proteomic and RNA seq analysis expertise
  • Published experience studying the interactions between colon cancer and Alzheimer’s disease in mouse models
  • Published experience studying sex differences in AD and cancer
  • Published experience with human and mouse studies
  • Extramural grant submission history and success
