Purpose of Position

We are seeking part-time employees to fill the role of Research Assistant in the Space Studies department at the John D. Odegard School of Aerospace Science

Duties & Responsibilities

  • The Research Assistant will support our satellite system, satellite ground station, and high-altitude ballooning projects by engaging in associated engineering design, development, testing, and operations activities.
  • Under the supervision of a faculty member conducting the research project, the position is responsible for assisting in a variety of administrative and non-administrative tasks which may include:
  • Managing research efforts
  • Preparing resources and materials for engineering design
  • Development, testing, and operations
  • Conducting hardware and software tests
  • Conducting spacecraft and high-altitude balloon operational activities
  • Documenting results
  • Other tasks in support of satellite system, satellite ground station, and high-altitude ballooning project activities.

Minimum Requirements

  • Pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Aerospace Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, or similar areas of study.
  • Experience with satellite systems, satellite ground stations, and/or high-altitude ballooning, including practical experience working with these systems.
  • Successful completion of a Criminal History Background Check
  • Good written and oral communication skills.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Ability to work in a team setting and independently.
  • Successful completion of a Criminal History Background Check

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience managing satellite system, satellite ground station, and/or high-altitude ballooning activities.
  • Experience supervising and mentoring undergraduate students in satellite system, satellite ground station and/or high-altitude ballooning activities.
