Salary/Position Classification

• Annual salary starting at $175,000, commensurate with experience. This includes a faculty base salary and administrative pay as the associate dean.
• This position will work onsite at UND Grand Forks, ND

Purpose of Position

The University of North Dakota School of Law invites applications for a tenured faculty member at the rank of Associate Professor or Full Professor who will also serve as Associate Dean for Academic Affairs, to commence in Fall 2027.

The School of Law seeks colleagues dedicated to fostering well-rounded and public-minded legal professionals with necessary skills to serve as effective, self-reflective, and ethical leaders in their communities.

We have a close relationship with the State's bench and bar and a special interest in connecting with and serving our rural as well as urban populations.

Duties & Responsibilities

Administrative Responsibilities include but are not limited to: 

• Oversight and development of special academic programs, including working with faculty Directors/Advisors of academic programs;
• Oversight and strategic planning relating to curriculum, assessment, and course scheduling;
• Assisting the Dean with engaging in ongoing tracking of any changes to ABA standards or their interpretations to facilitate continued compliance;
• Assisting the Dean as requested with administrative tasks relating to the School of Law budget and other financial matters;
• Other administrative tasks relating to the internal operations of the School of Law, including policies, procedures, and procurements relating to facilities;
• Various other administrative tasks, including serving as part of the School of Law’s senior administrative team;
• Representation of the School of Law at the University level and in relation to the North Dakota bench and bar.

In addition to the administrative responsibilities this person will be responsible for teaching two or more content courses per academic year, other teaching that may include individualized courses, course development, or student advising/mentorship, scholarly research, writing, and presentations as well as service and other activities which may include serving on law school and/or university committees and professional service.

Minimum Requirements

• J.D. degree from a law school in the United States or an equivalent degree from a non-U.S. school
• Tenured Associate or Full Professor at a law school in the United States 
• Successful completion of a Criminal History Background Check

Preferred Qualifications

• Demonstrated record of excellent teaching or an ability to become an excellent teacher;
• Evidence of scholarly research demonstrating potential for scholarly excellence;
• Evidence of service engagement within a law school and to local, state, or national legal or educational organizations; and
