  • This position will work onsite.

Purpose of Position

We are recruiting for a post-doctoral fellow to work in an active funded biomedical research laboratory in the Department of Biomedical Sciences at the University of North Dakota School of Medicine and Health Sciences. The candidate must be willing to work long hours and to work together with other highly motivated individuals to advance biomedical discoveries.

The focus of the work to be accomplished by the candidate will be mainly focused in the following areas: role of cations in the actions of HIV-1 proteins; role of cations in the pathogenesis of Alzheimer’s disease (AD); role of cations in the actions of HIV-1 anti-retroviral and anti-AD drugs; and role of iron in the actions of opioids, nicotine and alcohol.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Culturing cells
  • Advanced imaging techniques
  • Measuring intracellular levels of cations
  • Using modern molecular/genetic methods
  • Reading and knowing the relevant literature
  • Training new personnel in the laboratory
  • Attending and presenting at scientific meetings
  • Writing manuscripts
  • Helping to keep the laboratory clean and organized
  • Help with ordering of supplies
  • Design and complete experiments with little oversight by the PI
  • Develop new collaborations independently of the PI 

Minimum Requirements

  • PhD in Physiology, Pharmacology, Cell Biology, Biomedical Sciences, or a related and relevant field of biomedical sciences
  • Publication of relevant peer-reviewed manuscripts in internationally recognized scientific journals
  • Must be an expert in the study of inracellular organelle function with an enmphasis on endolysosomes and mitochondria
  • Successful completion of a Criminal History Background Check

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in molecular virology
  • Peer-reviewed manuscripts published in fields of HIV-1, general virology, and Alzheimer's disease
  • Expert in measuring levels of iron and reactive species in endolysosomes, mitochondria, and cytosol
