  • $45,000 annual, Exempt
  • 40 hours per week
  • This position will work onsite.

Purpose of Position

A successfully identified individual will join the laboratory of Dr. Kumi Nagamoto-Combs in the Department of Biomedical Sciences as a Post-Doctoral Fellow. S/he will take on a project investigating neuroimmune interactions triggered by peripheral inflammatory
conditions. The research focus of the laboratory includes, but not limited to, the development of neurobehavioral pathologies associated with allergic diseases and exposures to environmental allergens and toxins. A successful candidate is trained in the field of neuroscience and immunology, with extensive knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and pathology of the intestines, immune system, and brain

Duties & Responsibilities

Planning and performing experiments independently, analyzing and organizing data, preparing manuscripts for publications, presenting the study results at internal and external scientific meetings, and training others in the laboratory. 

Minimum Requirements

  • A Ph.D. OR will have obtained a Ph.D. by the time the position starts, in immunology, neurobiology, microbiology, or other relevant fields with 0-3 years of post-doctoral experience.
  • Demonstrable research experience in neuroscience and/or immunology
  • Technical proficiency in two or more of the following: substance administration to rodents, behavior testing and analyses, blood/tissue collection from rodents, immunohistochemistry, immunofluorescence, microscopy, flow cytometry, and molecular biology assays.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook, and Teams software.
  • At least one first-author publication in a peer-reviewed biomedical journal.
  • At least three years of experience working with mice.
  • Successful completion of a Criminal History Background Check

In compliance with federal law, all persons hired will be required to verify identity and eligibility to work in the US and to complete the required employment eligibility verification form upon hire.  This position supports visa sponsorship for continued employment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Four or more years of experience working with mouse models
  • Proficiency in mouse handling, including intragastric, intraperitoneal, and intravenous administration, blood collection from the tail and facial veins, behavior testing, and biological tissue dissections, brain microdissections, and survival surgery with rodents, and confocal microscopy
  • Proficiency in software use for animal behavior analyses, light/fluorescence imaging and quantitative analyses, and flow cytometry operations and analyses.
  • At least one first-author publication in a peer-reviewed biomedical journal focused on neuroscience or immune-related disease.
  • Knowledge of routine computational software used for image and data analyses and presentations, including but not limited to Adobe Photoshop or equivalent image analysis software, GraphPad or equivalent statistical software, etc.
  • Knowledge of the physiology and pathology of the gastrointestinal, immune, and nervous systems, or neuroimmunology of the central nervous system
  • Demonstrated ability to independently complete complex research programs with highly developed organization and problem-solving skills.
