Part-Time/Temporary - Certified Flight Instructor

  • $15.00 - $32.00 Hourly, Non-Exempt (Eligible for overtime)

Hours & Schedule

Dependent on the number of students assigned, courses, and the Flight Instructor Certificates held.

Purpose of Position

This is a part-time, non-benefited position. This position is to serve as a Flight Instructor - Airplane, providing flight instruction to students enrolled in aviation academic courses with flight labs at the University of North Dakota. A valid Flight Instructor Airplane Certificate and medical must be held to apply.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • The following are the required duties and responsibilities for this position:
    • Provide highest quality of flight training to students.
    • Provide customer service.
    • Follow the TCO requirements & standards that apply to each student.
    • Teach and adhere to appropriate UND standardization manual.
    • Maintain pilot proficiency.
    • Display professionalism.
    • Accurate record keeping.
    • Adhere & promote the Safety Management System (SMS). 

Required Competencies

  • Attention to detail.
  • Good written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to work well with other in a close environment.
  • Must have a valid FAA Medical Certificate.

Minimum Requirements

  • Hold, or actively working on, a Bachelor's degree in Aviation, or equivalent flight training experience.
  • FAA Requirements:
    • Commercial Pilot Certificate & Instrument Rating - Airplane.
    • Flight Instructor Certificate - Airplane.
    • Valid Class III FAA Medical Certificate.
  • Experience as a student or flight instructor in a Part 141 training program.
  • Successful completion of a Standard Criminal History Background Check

Preferred Qualifications

  • G1000 experience.
  • Flight Instructor - Instrument Airplane.

CFI Hiring Workshop

All applicants are required to attend the CFI Hiring Workshop on July 15, 2024. The workshop will begin with a written exam at 0800 in Odegard Hall Room 114 or Clifford Hall Room 210. If a satisfactory score is achieved on the written exam, an invitation will be extended to continue in the hiring process. Those who are invited to continue the process will be evaluated in an interview, and while performing an instrument approach and VFR traffic pattern in an ATD at their scheduled times between July 17th and July 18th at Ryan Hall. Applicants can expect to receive an interview and ATD schedule on July 16th. Applicants are advised that further details regarding their application process, written exam location, and any additional requirements will be communicated after their applications have been submitted.
