  • $12.00 hourly, Non-Exempt (Eligible for overtime)
  • Less than 20 hours/week.
  • Schedule: 9:30-11 AM and Noon to 2 PM, Monday - Friday

Purpose of Position

To provide Food Service to UND's Children's Learning Center.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Primary Duties and Responsibilities
    •  Distribute food and beverages that are catered into UCLC from Wilkerson Dining Center.
    •  Maintain cleanliness and orderliness in the kitchen area.
    •  Restock and clean classroom food service carts.
    •  Wash and sanitize dishes.
    •  Monitor and Record Food temperature and appliance temperature.
    •  Ensure compliance with all health and safety regulations. 
  • Environmental Maintenance
    •  Keep facilities clean and orderly, free from unnecessary objects.
    •  Assist in refilling supplies and assume responsibility for proper care of supplies, equipment, and facilities.
    •  Notify an experienced teacher or member of the administrative about the need for supplies or repairs on a regular basis.
    •  Assist with cleaning and tidying the Learning Center. 
  • Secondary Responsibilities, as needed
    • Assist in the implementation of developmentally appropriate planned activities that promote growth in all developmental domains.
      • a. Set a positive example of how learning is fun.
      • b. Assist children with activities to further their growth and development.
      • c. Assist with set-up and clean-up of activities.
      • d. Sub for teacher, as needed.
    • Assist in maintaining the health and safety of children and the environment. This requires that one be agile and strong.
      • Assist in maintaining the daily routine that meets children’s need for rest, nutrition, quiet and active play, both in and outdoors, throughout the day. (Requires that one be able to play comfortably on the floor, sit on the floor for long periods of time, sit in child-sized chairs at low table, hold children in one’s lap, and play outdoors for long periods of time in both hot and cold weather).

Required Competencies

  • Become knowledgeable of and carry out the University Children’s Learning Center policies and goals as outlined in the Teacher’s Guide.
  • Become familiar with the Parent Guide.
  • Work Effectively, respectfully, and professionally with a team of colleagues.
  • Uphold the code of professional /ethical conduct and maintain strict confidentiality of all children, families, and coworkers.
  • Complete and maintain membership in Growing Futures ND.
  • Attend workshops, seminars, conferences, and/or enroll in college courses that promote one’s professional growth, particularly related to food service in childcare.
  • Practice use of ideas and knowledge acquired, sharing this information with other staff.
  • Maintain familiarity and meet minimum requirements as indicated by the ND Child Care Center Early Childhood Services -Chapter 75-03-10, Licensing Rules and Regulations. Adhere to these policies to the best of your ability.
  • Attend the appropriate amount of certified training annually.
  • Conduct self in an appropriate manner in order serve as a role model to young children, parents, colleagues, and the community.
  • Maintain good personal hygiene and dress professionally for work.
  • Assist in attaining staff cooperation and team effectiveness.
  • Suggest constructive, appropriate ways of handling problems as they arise.
  • Be respectful and courteous to children, families, coworkers, and visitors.
  • Maintain good communication with all members of the Learning Center.
  • Attend and participate in staff orientations and meetings.
  • The day-to-day responsibilities of the food service employee may require lifting food storage containers and milk bags into the milk machine. Individuals should be able to lift up to 50 pounds. 
  • Knowledge regarding child development, specifically related to children ages 18 months to 5 years old.

Minimum Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Upon being hired, enrollment in ND Growing Futures training program for childcare professional development, including a basic childcare course and a mandated reporter training.
  • CPR/First Aid/AED training within the first 60 days of employment.
  • Successful completion of Criminal Background Check-includes fingerprinting.

In compliance with federal law, all persons hired will be required to verify identity and eligibility to work in the US and to complete the required employment eligibility verification form upon hire. This position does not support visa sponsorship for continued employment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 6 months or greater of food service experience to include knowledge of food service and safety standards to ensure meals are served in a safe and hygienic environment.
  • ServSafe Certification.
  • Enrollment in ND Growing Futures training program for childcare professional development, including a basic childcare course and a mandated reporter training.
  • CPR/First Aid/AED certification
