Operations Center Supervisor

Salary/Position Classification

  • $44,300-$62,000 Annual, Dependent on Experience, Non-Exempt (Eligible for overtime)
  • 40 hours per week
  • This position will work onsite at the Grand Forks, ND campus

Purpose of Position

The 24/7 Operations Center is responsible for receiving, coordinating, and dispatching emergency and non-emergency calls related to overall campus operations. The Center is also responsible for central station monitoring for critical UND systems. This position works as part of a team within 24/7 Operations Center.

  • Supervise Operations Center staff
  • Coordinate building automation and control systems with related trades
  • Coordinate security systems
  • Responsible for the safety and security of all electronic door access, keys, or building access devices distributed from the Operations Center.
  • Prepare and coordinate emergency services and responses for Operations Center
  • Act as a key member of the Emergency Management Team

Duties & Responsibilities

Supervise Operations Center Staff

  • Hiring, staff training (both new staff and ongoing in-service training sessions), discipline when necessary, annual performance reviews (PMPs)
  • Scheduling of staff for 24/7 coverage
  • Development of policies and procedures guiding staff and ensuring that proper procedures/polices are followed
  • Payroll and accounting duties for the Operations Center which include forms processing for hiring, terminations, time sheets 

Coordinate building automation and control systems with related trades

  • Monitor daily operations and coordinate appropriate responses from the Operations Center staff as well as Building Automation systems, and plumbing trades and remote site personnel
  • Ensure that response to alarms is appropriate and timely (Code Red/Code Yellow critical alarms, etc.)
  • Review reports daily and weekly
  • Update information to all affected personnel 

Coordinate security systems and electronic door access systems

  • Establish the proper daily procedure for each security system after installation and routing of it to the proper individuals
  • Establish, review, and update the listing of authorized individuals for each system
  • Coordinate time programming schedules between departments and UND Building Automation personnel
  • Coordinate and monitor electronic door access and camera surveillance
  • Audit of Electronic door access for departments 

Prepare and coordinate emergency services and responses for the Operations Center

  • Ensure that the Operations Center staff is trained and up-to-date on the policies and procedures to be followed
  • Post daily activity reports in VEOCI as well as during emergency situations; assist with set-up and installation of this system
  • Oversee monthly testing and maintenance of campus siren system and bi-yearly testing of the Emergency Notification System.
  • Works within the National Incident Management System (NIMS) and when required, participates in the UND Emergency Operations Plan and associated operations implementation to include notification of response personnel for the Emergency Management Team and/or Crisis Response Team
  • Responsible for timely response, situational awareness and dispatching for 911 calls for UND’s jurisdiction in coordination with the Grand Forks Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP) and local and regional emergency services
  • Responsible for immediate notification of all fire/life/safety alarms, dispatching of appropriate emergency response personnel and follow-up notifications for other personnel in accordance with operation procedures

Required Competencies

  • Substantial experience with Operations Center software and systems or equivalent including building automation, security alarms, electronic door access, camera surveillance, mass notification, and virtual emergency management.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with a variety of individuals.
  • Excellent verbal communication skills.

Minimum Requirements

  • Associate’s degree or three years of directly related experience.
  • One year of operations experience in emergency management, emergency dispatch, operations center or equivalent
  • Supervisory experience
  • Professional experience working with Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook
  • Successful completion of a Criminal History Background Check
