Salary/Position Classification

  • $35 - $42/hour commensurate with experience, Non-Exempt (Eligible for overtime)
  • Hours will vary but will not exceed 19/week
  • 100% Remote Work Availability: No
  • This position requires an in person, on campus presence

Purpose of Position

The mission of the College of Nursing & Professional Disciplines (CNPD) is to provide excellent and collaborative education, scholarship, and service to advance human well-being for all, with an emphasis on rural and underserved populations.

The CNPD is comprised of the departments of Nursing, Nutrition & Dietetics, and Social Work. The department of Nursing is seeking a Nurse Mentor who will support nursing students as part of a grant.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Serve as a Mentor to Nursing Students
    • Develop a trusting, caring relationship and maintain ongoing student contact and interaction
    • Create a caring space and culture of belonging
    • Review academic readiness and possible barriers and facilitate connection to appropriate support services
    • Provide academic advice/counsel, assist with financial aid applications and all documentation needed to facilitate academic readiness and success
    • Provide an orientation and overview of the grant to students each semester
    • Assist students with organizing their course schedules/syllabi
    • Develop strategies to assist students in preparing for exams, developing study strategies, and practicing skills, including group study sessions and individual tutoring
    • Assist students in developing professional oral and written communication skills

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing
  • Must be eligible for licensure as a registered nurse in North Dakota or have a current unencumbered nursing license
  • Demonstrated basic software knowledge, specifically with Microsoft Office products
  • Prior usage of nursing lab equipment
  • Successful completion of a Criminal History Background Check

In compliance with federal law, all persons hired will be required to verify identity and eligibility to work in the US and to complete the required employment eligibility verification form upon hire. This position does not support visa sponsorship for continued employment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master of Science in Nursing
  • Five years successful work experience with populations from disadvantaged backgrounds in North Dakota (e.g. rural or tribal)
  • Working knowledge of rural nursing theory and sociological and psychosocial behaviors
  • Knowledge of health career pathways and curriculum
  • Knowledge of respective educational institutions and higher education
