Salary/Position Classification

  • $17.00 - $21.00 hourly, Non-Exempt (Eligible for overtime)
    • Typical Shift 7:00am - 3:30pm, may vary
  • 40 hours per week
  • This position will work onsite at the UND Grand Forks, ND campus

Purpose of Position

The purpose of this position is to assist other cooks with the preparation for and production of products required for each of the different concept areas and Campus Catering in the Memorial Union.
To coordinate with the Memorial Union leadership team to ensure that all cooking areas are clean and organized to ensure that customers receive the highest quality food in the friendliest atmosphere that we can create
To oversee that recipes are followed and minimize duplication of effort of cooks as well as student employees

Duties & Responsibilities

Kitchen Production

  • Preparation of daily prep list
  • Start equipment in the various concepts in the MU, including Branded and Self-Branded areas
  • Uses the following equipment: grills, meat slicers, food chopper, steam equipment, fryers, ovens, scales, woks, tabletop ovens, pizza oven, combi ovens, bun toasters, etc.
  • Reads, follows and comprehends recipes so they are prepared accurately
  • Produces food for Franchise areas following all Franchise requirements and guidelines

Display Cooking/Customer Service

  • Prepare all concept products per customers preference
  • Make sandwiches and wraps to customer preference
  • Help with all Memorial Union concept Branded and Self-Branded areas as needed

Kitchen Cleanliness and Organization

  • Ensure that counter are clean and organized
  • Properly stores all food products
  • Prepares all products according to safety and sanitation guidelines
  • Takes temperature audits as required
  • Ensure that food is rotated in the coolers and freezers according to FIFO
  • Follow weekly and monthly cleaning lists to ensure that kitchen is clean and efficient

Food Pro/HAACP Manager/Service Record Management

  • Maintain proper record of food served for each meal zone and make sure service records are forwarded to Kitchen Manager
  • Takes temperature audits as required

Required Competencies

  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and organization skills
  • Ability to read, comprehend and follow recipes and other written instructions
  • Have basic math skills to complete production and service reports
  • Requires knowledge of food production and equipment used in the business
  • Self-motivated
  • Able to work independently
  • Have an optimistic attitude, high degree of integrity, and a strong work ethic
  • Ability to stand for 3-4 hours at a time

Minimum Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • One year experience in restaurant/snack bar/food service environment
  • Experience with of the materials, equipment and food used in the food service business
  • Customer service experience
  • Successful completion of a Criminal History Background Check

Preferred Qualifications

  • ServSafe certified
  • One Year supervisory experience
