  • $42,900 annual, Exempt
  • 40 hours per week

Purpose of Position

  1. Coordinate with the Marketing Managers and other team members on the development and execution of integrated strategic marketing communications to assist with retention, enrollment and branding for the University of North Dakota.
  2. Serve as the main point of contact for current student communications.
  3. Use various systems and tools to develop and execute messaging in a timely and effective manner.
  4. Work closely with a variety of UND departments to help them develop timelines, organize details and serve as project manager to ensure successful completion of projects from development through final evaluation.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with a team of professionals to assist with the coordination, production and implementation of branding, recruitment and retention messaging campaigns from the development stage to the final evaluation.
    • Coordinate the development, production, distribution and evaluation of traditional and digital communications in an effective, efficient and timely manner.
    • Manage and assess effectiveness of UND’s current student communications, including the Student Life Weekly newsletter, mobile app messaging and texting platform.
    • Write, edit and proofread student communications for various traditional and digital platforms.
    • Manage digital signage requests and the central feed for campus. Work with campus partners to update digital signs that do not meet standards.
    • Use a variety of UND systems and tools to manage communications, including for emails, digital newsletters, website content, digital signs, texting, mobile app, surveys, etc.
    • Track and report applicable metrics for various communication platforms.
    • Coordinate direct mail campaigns, including list management and mail merges for monthly letter mailings and ad hoc campaigns.
    • Assist with the development of email communications and drip campaigns for prospective students in the University’s Customer Relationship Management (CRM) systems.
    • Regularly review student communications to ensure accuracy, clarity, student-centered messaging and university branding. Provide feedback to Creative Team for enhanced effectiveness and creativity in design.
    • Follow UND Identity Guidelines and Brand Standards for design and writing.
    • Complete all assigned projects in an efficient, effective and timely manner. 
  • Serve as a contributing member of the Division of Marketing & Communications and the University of North Dakota.
    • Contribute to an optimistic and enthusiastic workplace that challenges and energizes staff.
    • Support the workplace culture of the Division and University by demonstrating the professional conduct and values expected of all employees.
    • Participate in developing, implementing and continually evaluating the Division’s policies, processes and strategies and recommend changes when necessary.
    • Follow Division and University systems and protocols for resource, project and file management.
    • Actively participate in staff meetings, retreats, planning sessions, trainings, and other meetings/events as required.
    • Volunteer for at least two campus events per year.
    • Be forward thinking and explore new opportunities for growth and improvement. Continually improve and advance personal leadership through professional development and continuing education.
    • Complete annual professional development goals by attending workshops, listening to webinars, reading articles or other learning opportunities as they relate to marketing strategy, especially in areas of higher education marketing, leadership and student engagement. 
  • Work with campus partners and Marketing Creative Services (MCS) team members to develop branding, recruitment and retention campaigns by serving as a strategic partner and project manager. Work with MCS team members to help campus partners develop appropriate marketing strategies, tactics and best practices to meet strategic goals, including:
    • Assist in developing, implementing and documenting communication plans and project requests, including goals, audience(s), strategies/tactics, timeline, budget and evaluation.
    • Build strong working relationships with partners, vendors and other service providers.
    • Assist with post-evaluation of projects to measure effectiveness/ROI (as applicable) and provide suggestions for future improvements.
    • Serve as a project manager and main point of contact for assigned projects.

Required Competencies

  • Exceptional organizational and planning skills with strong attention to detail.

  • Demonstrated ability to think creatively, solve problems and make sound decisions.
  • Strong written communication skills, including writing marketing copy for various channels.
  • Ability to use and experience in Microsoft Office (PowerPoint, Excel, Word, Outlook), Internet, e-mail, and web research.
  • Proven ability to work independently and collaborate effectively as part of a team.
  • Ability to have grace under pressure and work efficiently under time constraints while producing high quality work.
  • Familiarity with current student marketing trends, strategies and tactics.
    Works in an environment with multiple deadlines, including demonstrated ability to prioritize and meet multiple requests.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, advertising, business, management, or related field.
  • Experience working across a variety of marketing and communication channels.
  • Experience with content management systems (CMS) or marketing software (e.g. Mailchimp, Google Analytics) is desirable but not essential.
  • Experience working with customers/clients.
  • Successful completion of a Criminal History Background Check

Preferred Qualifications

  • 1 year of proven experience in a marketing, communications, copywriting, administrative or advertising position (including internships).
  • Experience writing and communicating marketing messages.
  • Experience working with digital newsletters and/or texting systems.
  • Experience using a website content management system.
  • Experience using CRM software.
  • Experience using a project management software.
  • Experience with graphic design or collaborating with a graphic designer to create marketing materials.
  • Experience working with direct mail and commercial vendors, including bid specifications, mailing list management and print production.
  • Experience marketing programs and events.
  • Ability to take information and simplify it into clear, concise text.
  • Familiarity with higher education marketing trends, strategies and tactics.
