Purpose of Position

Are you passionate about storytelling, social media, and creative communication? We’re looking for a motivated and detail-oriented Marketing and Communications Student Assistant to help develop and share engaging content across a variety of platforms.

In this role, you’ll work closely with staff across our department and programs to support marketing and communication initiatives that showcase our impact and connect with key audiences. From social media and digital outreach to written content and visual storytelling, you’ll contribute directly to how we share our message and engage the community.

This position offers hands-on experience in communication strategy, marketing, and digital content creation. You’ll build real-world skills in writing, design, and project coordination while gaining exposure to professional tools and techniques. Students may also have the opportunity to earn academic internship credit.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Create and curate compelling content for publications, press releases, website updates, social media, email campaigns, and other marketing materials.
  • Develop a strong understanding of the organization’s mission, values, and programs to ensure all communications are accurate and aligned.
  • Support brand consistency by following established branding guidelines and reviewing materials for clarity and quality.
  • Collaborate with staff to brainstorm and develop creative content ideas that align with marketing and outreach goals.
  • Assist in planning and evaluating communication campaigns, using data to measure performance and suggest improvements.
  • Help manage social media platforms by scheduling posts, monitoring engagement, and identifying ways to enhance reach and impact.
  • Stay up to date on current trends and best practices in digital communication and social media.

Minimum Requirements

  • Current UND student
  • Major in business, communication, graphic design, or a related field
  • Relevant experience through coursework, student organizations, or prior work
  • Expected graduation no earlier than May 2027
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to meet deadlines and manage multiple tasks
  • Initiative and willingness to learn new tools
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and social media platforms
  • Creativity, attention to detail, and strong organizational skills
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively
  • Successful completion of a Criminal History Background Check

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with Adobe Creative Cloud (Photoshop, Illustrator, or InDesign)
  • Experience with social media management tools or email marketing platforms (such as Constant Contact)
  • Portfolio of writing, social media, or design work
  • Basic understanding of video editing or digital analytics
