Purpose of Position

The Marketing & Communications Specialist will be the primary contact for all marketing communications for the School of Graduate Studies, including but not limited to developing communications, designing graphics and other marketing materials, and promotion of all Graduate School events and activities. This position will also provide programming and building services support at the Gershman Graduate Center.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Coordinate all marketing and communication efforts for the School of Graduate Studies
    • Develop and implement comprehensive marketing and communication plans associated with the Graduate School’s programs and services, events, workshops, special initiatives, and other activities as assigned.
    • Develop and manage print, digital and web content, including planning, writing, editing, scheduling, and publishing for all Graduate School events and activities.
    • Collaborate with team members on the development, design, and implementation of marketing projects, ensuring deadlines are met and goals are achieved.
    • Manage the department website to ensure accurate written and digital content, while meeting university website standards and guidelines.
    • Produce and direct high-quality, relevant, and appropriate social media content for the School’s social media account(s) and serve as the School’s liaison and representative with regard to social media.
    • Coordinate the design, purchase, storage, dissemination, and inventory of branded promotional items.
    • Serve as the main liaison between the Graduate School and the UND Marketing & Creative Services team.
    • Collaborate with UND’s Marketing & Creative Services to ensure that department goals are aligned with institutional priorities and contribute to and are aligned with UND’s marketing and branding strategies.
    • Collaborate with campus departments to support promotion of department programs and events. 

  • Develop and manage all graphic design for the School of Graduate Studies
    • Prepare illustrations, photographs, graphics, and multimedia elements for a wide variety of uses, including marketing materials and websites.
    • Design for a wide spectrum of print and electronic mediums and ensure artwork meets specifications for print and digital delivery.
    • Think creatively to produce innovative, accurate and high-quality work.
    • Ensure artwork meets UND identity guidelines.
    • Research new trends and technologies; implement as appropriate.
    • Work with video production personnel to assist with the development of video graphics as needed. 

  • Provide program assistance for all Graduate School events and activities 
    • Provide administrative assistance for graduate activities coordinated by the School of Graduate Studies, including survey creation, registration setup, submission of event approval and catering forms, and scheduling logistics.
    • Assist with program development, planning, facilitating, implementing, and executing graduate-related events and activities.
    • Manage and update content within the online Graduate School Orientation and Blackboard accounts.
    • Order, prepare, and organize promotional items, printed materials, signage, and other event resources, ensuring timely delivery and alignment with event goals.
    • Develop, implement, and execute marketing incentives and engagement activities that promote graduate-related events and support the distribution of promotional items.
    • Support registration and event communications, including responding to inquiries and creating/distributing personalized messages using mail merge and other communication tools.
    • Manage the Graduate School’s loaner supply program, overseeing inventory availability, tracking, and maintenance of items for departmental use.
    • Occasionally assist with event-related errands, including transporting supplies and materials in preparation for Graduate School events. 

  • Assist with Building Operations and Services at the Gershman Graduate Center
    • Provide building coverage and operational assistance when scheduled and needed.
    • Maintain a welcoming and approachable environment for users of the Gershman Graduate Center by providing superior service to guests.
    • Regulate and monitor service, safety, and security of the Gershman Graduate Center by completing opening and closing procedures, walking building rounds, responding to questions/incidents, and executing emergency procedures (such as building evacuations and medical emergencies).
    • Provide setups/teardowns and assist guests with basic technical support, furniture, and other facility-related needs.
    • Assist with keeping a clean and neat appearance of lounge, meeting rooms, hallways, and storage areas.
    • Host tours of the Gershman Graduate Center and assist in promoting the space to visitors.
    • Monitor and manage the Gershman Graduate Center’s email account, main phone line, and building reservation approvals through the Mazevo platform.

  • Familiarity with photography principles and techniques
  • Familiarity with higher education marketing trends, strategies, and tactics

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communication, Graphic Arts, or a related field; OR Associate’s degree and three years of directly related experience; OR five years of directly related experience
  • One year of related professional or internship experience
  • Experience developing written communications for marketing and promotional purposes
  • Experience using Adobe InDesign
  • At the time of interview, three written marketing/promotional samples will be required
  • Successful completion of criminal history records check

Preferred Qualifications

  • 2 or more years of experience working in higher education
  • Experience designing for a wide spectrum of print and electronic mediums
  • Experience with social media and content creation
  • Experience with branding
  • Experience working across diverse mediums, including print, electronic, social networking, video and other emerging media
  • Proficient with using Adobe InDesign
  • Ability to provide, at the time of interview, three original graphic design samples (created in InDesign)
