Salary/Position Classification

  • $38,000+ annual, Non-Exempt (Eligible for overtime)
  • 40 hours per week, Monday - Friday 8:00am - 4:30pm
  • This position will work onsite at UND Grand Forks, ND campus

Purpose of Position

Responsible for providing general maintenance, department and miscellaneous repair requests in university-owned facilities. In addition, they perform non-warehouse deliveries, department moves/transfers and assist with event set-ups/teardowns.
All Facilities Management positions are subject to overtime & callback twenty-four (24) hours a day, seven (7) days a week, as needed/directed by supervisors/directors.

Duties & Responsibilities

General Building Maintenance

  • General Carpentry - Repair/replace doors, door jambs and trim; install/repair shelving, bulletin boards, furniture, cove base, walls, screens, mirrors, weather strip for windows/doors, ceiling tile, door hardware, window parts, mechanical and electric window shades, bathroom accessories and classroom accessories; remove and install drywall
  • Electrical - Replace switch/outlet covers; replace light bulbs and repair light covers
  • Plumbing - Unplug sinks, showers, toilets, urinals, and drinking fountains; repair/replace all shower and faucet stems, seats, cartridges, shower heads and lavatory fixtures; repair drinking fountains and perform minor replacement of water lines and waste lines; diagnose and repair eyewash and emergency showers
  • Heating/cooling - Remove/install window air conditioning units; cover/uncover seasonally
  • Lock repair - Install and repair locksets, panic hardware and cabinet locks
  • Building exterior - Miscellaneous concrete repairs and exterior structure repairs/replacements
  • Install required signage, grab bars, paper/tissue dispensers in required locations; adjust and maintain ADA door closures; build or repair ramps or thresholds to allow handicapped access

Department Requests

  • Installation and mounting of artwork, hardware, lab equipment and personal items
  • Modification of space to suit occupant needs and comply with guidelines
  • Repair/upkeep of athletic equipment, signage, and classroom systems to include projectors, screens, and smart boards
  • Repair/modify modular office systems and fixtures
  • Install televisions, monitors, projectors and other classroom technology
  • Transfer furniture, equipment, and items requested by departments
  • Deliver and setup items tables/chairs/stages for events on campus
  • Pickup and deliver liquid nitrogen dewars for filling
  • Place and remove traps for pests
  • Miscellaneous Repair Requests
  • Repair overhead doors.
  • Repair bi-fold and sliding hangar doors
  • Respond to elevator and hydraulic lift malfunctions and emergencies
  • Escort contractors for specialized repairs and inspect work
  • Repair and maintenance of modular partition walls
  • Upkeep of greenhouse structures
  • Inspect and repair dock lifts and levelers

 

Required Competencies

  • Interact, communicate and collaborate with students, faculty, staff, and co-workers
  • Work independently and as a team and complete necessary training for this job classification
  • Comprehend and follow directions as well as use sound decision-making skills
  • Understand, speak, read and write English well enough to perform the functions of the position; including reading and communicating in regards to work orders, safety instructions
  • Withstand long periods of lifting, pulling, tugging, climbing, kneeling, working with hands overhead, without restrictions
  • Work in buildings containing asbestos materials.
  • Prioritize jobs, when issued.
  • Use/operation of power saws, hand tools, drills and plumbing snakes

Minimum Requirements

  • Two years general facility maintenance and carpentry experience, as well as use of associated tools of this trade, in a commercial setting
  • Basic computer experience; Microsoft Outlook, Excel, and Word
  • Successful completion of a Criminal History Background Check

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with UND campus and buildings
  • Experience with FAMIS, facilities management software
  • Operate scissor, fork, and boom lifts as well as tele-handler
