Purpose of Position

To provide individual, crisis, and group counseling to University Students, and serves as a consultant regarding mental health matters to faculty, staff, and other members of the University community. Participate with the team in a variety of outreach activities, with a focus on diverse student populations.

This 92% position works full time from August 1-May 31 and half time in June and July.

Duties & Responsibilities

Provide Counseling and Psychotherapy to University Students 

  • Conduct intake interviews
  • Conduct assessments as needed to facilitate therapy and treatment planning
  • Facilitate groups as assigned
  • Provide crisis intervention services as scheduled or needed
  • Work out a treatment plan with client
  • Continue with counseling/ psychotherapy until the case is terminated
  • Consult with medical providers or other external parties as needed
  • Refer clients when appropriate

Non-Direct Clinical Service Activities

  • Keep records related to client contacts along timelines prescribed by director
  • Write letters for clients upon request
  • Work with case management as needed

Engage in professional activities and professional development

  • Attend UCC staff meetings to conduct business.
  • Attend UCC clinical staffing and presentations to present and discuss client cases to ensure quality service.
  • Attend and participate in UCC in-service presentations.
  • Attend conferences, seminars, and workshops related to professional development and in alignment to the responsibilities of the Counseling Center
  • Maintain license to practice.

Provide Outreach & Secondary Clinical services

  • Conduct Outreach services to University students, staff, faculty, and community.
  • Assist in development and/or provision of outreach opportunities with an emphasis in diverse student populations
  • As needed, serve on a UND Committee by attending meetings, implementing committee endorsements, and regularly informing UCC staff programming, projects, etc.
  • Assist in the creation and distribution of outreach materials, marketing information and specialty campaigns to assist UND students at large.
  • Conduct inventory of UCC outreach marketing materials, items, and order more when necessary.
  • Create and post content on social media.
  • Clinician dedicates a minimum of 4 hours per week to oversee and individually respond to students who have completed an interactive screening process (ISP) questionnaire or responded through dialogue.
  • Assist and oversee the content of UCC website.
  • Facilitate and organize UCC Groups.
  • Assist and oversee UND Wellbeing App.  

Required Competencies

  • Demonstrated expertise in counseling/psychotherapy
  • Demonstrated ability to flexibly manage the professional demands of a challenging workload while maintaining positive and healthy perspectives and relationships
  • Demonstrated collaboration skills
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Able to work in a Hybrid Model remote/on-site if needed

Minimum Requirements

  • Master's Degree in Counseling or Master's Degree in Social Work or Doctorate in Psychology
  • Licensed Associate Professional Counselor (LAPC) or Licensed Associate Psychologist.
  • Must be licensed to practice therapy in ND or eligible for licensure in ND within 3 months
  • Successful completion of a Criminal History Background Check

Preferred Qualifications

  • Therapy experience with college population
  • Experience with Electronic Records Management Systems
  • Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (LPCC), or Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW Clinical Level-All Independent licensure supervision must be completed), Licensed Clinical or Counseling Psychologist
