  • $20.00 hourly, Non-Exempt (Eligible for overtime)
  • 19 hours per week

Purpose of Position

This position provides direct administrative support to the faculty and students in the School of Law’s faculty-supervised experiential learning programs, including the Family Law Clinic and Immigration Law Clinic and other similar curriculum, and the School of Law pro bono program.

Duties & Responsibilities

Paralegal and administrative support for faculty and law students of the School of Law’s faculty-supervised experiential learning programs. Tasks involved in fulfilling the above duties/responsibilities:

  • Provide comprehensive administrative support to faculty members and students.
  • Draft, prepare, proofread, and format legal documents and correspondence.
  • Manage calendars, schedule meetings, and coordinate any travel necessary for court appearances.
  • Maintain and organize client and case files (physical and digital).
  • Maintain accurate record and ensure timely completion of all required filings and deadlines.
  • Electronic and physical filing of court pleadings in district and federal courts.
  • Communicate regularly with clients and external contacts professionally.
  • Assist with time entry and expense reporting.
  • Courteously and efficiently welcome all clients and visitors upon arrival, creating a positive and professional first impression.
  • Answer and route incoming calls. Complete intake for potential clients. Ensure callers are professionally and efficiently connected to the appropriate faculty member or student. Take and relay accurate messages when necessary.
  • Receive and sort daily mail, courier deliveries, and packages. Distribute mail and items promptly. Coordinate outgoing mail and packages as needed.
  • General administrative assistance including scanning, data entry, and document preparation.
  • Assist with scheduling client appointments and coordinating conference room availability. Monitor room calendars and ensure smooth arrangements for internal and client meetings.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of the reception area, lobby, supply room, conference rooms, and other shared spaces. Inventory supplies and process supply orders.
  • Serve as the first point of contact for equipment as assigned. Report technical issues and coordinate service requests or vendor support as needed.
  • Handle all clinic and client matters with discretion. Maintain confidentiality and professionalism in every interaction and communication. 

Required Competencies

  • Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to multitask, remain organized, and maintain professionalism.

Minimum Requirements

  • 2 years post-secondary education
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel)
  • Successful completion of a Criminal History Background Check

Preferred Qualifications

  • Paralegal certification
  • Experience with North Dakota Odyssey E-Filing System, Clio Manage, Clio Grow, and Time59
