Purpose of Position

This is a part-time, non-benefited position. Only UND students are eligible to be hired in this position.

Housing Office Assistants play a key role in creating a welcoming and helpful environment for all students, families, and visitors who interact with the Housing & Residence Life Office. This position focuses on delivering exceptional customer service in person, over the phone, and through email. Office Assistants support daily operations by helping students with housing questions, coordinating check-in appointments, and assisting with check-out documentation. Additional responsibilities include general office tasks such as scanning documents, organizing spreadsheets, sorting mail, making copies, typing, entering work orders, and supporting various projects as needed. This role is ideal for students who are organized, detail-oriented, and passionate about creating a positive experience for others.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Greet and assist students, families, and visitors in a friendly and professional manner
  • Respond to inquiries via phone, email, and in person with accurate information and a focus on excellent customer service.
  • Create and update spreadsheets for office tracking and reporting
  • Demonstrate effective critical thinking through problem solving, prioritization and communication.
  • Ability to complete daily administrative tasks as assigned
  • Maintain confidentially and uphold housing policies and procedures
  • Contribute to a positive team-oriented office environment

Required Competencies

  •  Must maintain strict confidentiality in compliance with FERPA and other privacy standards

     Strong communication skills and reliability are essential for success in this role

     High attention to detail is required to complete tasks accurately and efficiently

     Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs (e.g., Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams) is necessary

     Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a criminal background check

Minimum Requirements

  • A valid driver’s license is required for completing deliveries and running office errands
  • Must be able to lift and carry items up to 25 pounds
  • Must be willing to wear provided uniform (shirt) during scheduled shifts
  • Successful completion of a Criminal History Background Check

In compliance with federal law, all persons hired will be required to verify identity and eligibility to work in the US and to complete the required employment eligibility verification form upon hire. This position does not support visa sponsorship for continued employment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience in customer service and/or office settings
  • Lived in UND Housing & Residence Life for at least one semester
  • Availability to work during key office hours (Monday–Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.)
  • Willingness and ability to work during academic breaks and summer months
  • Preference given to candidates seeking long-term employment (more than two semesters)
