Group Exercise Instructor

Salary/Position Classification

• $14.00 hourly, Non-Exempt (Eligible for overtime)
• 5-10 (Varies based on classes instructed) hours per week
• 100% Remote Work Availability: No
• Hybrid Work Availability (requires some time on campus): No

Purpose of Position

The Group Exercise Instructor delivers a high-quality movement experience by using modalities, exercises, and encouragement in a group setting that are utilized to improve fitness qualities (e.g. strength, endurance, stability, flexibility). The instructor also serves as an ambassador for fitness promotion and a healthy lifestyle to members; and is a resource for other fitness-related services offered within the facility.

This is a part-time, non-benefited position. Only UND students are eligible to be hired in this position.

Duties & Responsibilities

• Create a welcoming environment for all participants.
• Engage with participants in an approachable and friendly manner.
• Lead participants through class with a structured sequence format.
• Provide necessary coaching, feedback, and modifications to ensure participant’s safety and enjoyment.
• Disseminate information on Wellness & Health Promotion services and programs.
• Utilize technology to track class participants.
• Complete all cleaning and sanitation tasks as assigned to maintain a healthy environment.
• Attend all meetings and trainings as required.

Minimum Requirements

• General working knowledge of exercise equipment and ability to demonstrate proper use to participants.
• Possess effective communication skills to lead, direct, and correct in a group setting.
• Ability to create rapport with participants to provide motivation and support for continued participation in physical activity and healthy lifestyle choices.
• Certified in CPR/First Aid/AED, or ability to obtain within 2 weeks of hire. (Training is provided by the Wellness Center at no cost for employees).
• Successful completion of a Criminal History Background Check

In compliance with federal law, all persons hired will be required to verify identity and eligibility to work in the US and to complete the required employment eligibility verification form upon hire. This position does not support visa sponsorship for continued employment.

Preferred Qualifications

• Possess or be pursuing a major or minor in kinesiology, recreation, nutrition, or another health-related field; OR have prior experience in a Group Exercise setting and/or possess at least one certification relevant to instructing or coaching.
