Purpose of Position

The Facility Manager is responsible for ensuring safe, efficient, and quality operating conditions of the Wellness Center and surrounding facilities. This includes opening and securing the facility, handling sales functions, supervising staff, enforcing, and educating staff and members on procedures and guidelines, and ensuring safety and emergency response procedures are followed. While assuming managerial responsibility for the facility at all times, this position must foster an environment of teamwork and collaboration among all other team members.

This is a part-time, non-benefitted position. Only UND students are eligible to be hired in this position.

Functional Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the primary Wellness & Health Promotion representative with an extensive knowledge of department programs and services.
  • Respond to questions, problems/issues, complaints and suggestions as given by members, guests, and other staff.
  • Be early to shifts, to ensure timely response to operation of the Wellness Center.
  • Open the facility and prepare it for the daily operation.
  • Close and secure the facility, ensuring the facility is clear of all members, guests, and staff. Ensure equipment is turned off, equipment put away properly and facility is completely secure from unauthorized entry.
  • Know and enforce all Wellness Center policies and procedures.
  • Conduct on-going walkthroughs of the facility and surrounding areas for the duration of the shift to ensure all spaces are clean, organized and free from potential safety hazards.
  • Monitor facility and surrounding exterior areas (including entrance/exits, front walkways, lawns, and outdoor courts) for maintenance issues, safety hazards, debris, and snow. Ensure work orders and reporting occur as necessary.
  • Immediately respond to customer service and safety needs including custodial and maintenance duties as needed and requested. This may include but not limited to picking up trash, sweeping, mopping, and de-icing and/or clearing of snow from entrances as needed.
  • Provide leadership to overall student staff team members in Member Services, Fitness, Campus Recreation & Intramurals, and Rock Wall. Ensure staff guidelines are being followed. Address, correct, and report as necessary.
  • Check-in and maintain communication during shifts with student and professional staff through appropriate radio use. Recharge communication equipment at the end of each shift to maintain proper function.
  • Initiate communication with professional staff about issues/concerns.
  • Set-up/tear-down equipment (recreation, furniture, IT, audio/visual, and meeting rooms); move equipment to proper locations.
  • Manage all financial processes; counting of funds, accessing/securing funds, and processing required reports/forms including daily shift reports.

Emergency Response:

  • Serve as the primary responsible manager by responding to all emergency scenarios and assist in immediate first aid and proper emergency procedures.
  • Notify all appropriate parties, and direct emergency related events included evacuation of the facility.
  • Provide support and guidance to other staff during any first aid or emergency situations.
  • Report all injuries to administrative staff via accident reports.
  • Follow and enforce all department safety policies.
  • Monitor first aid kit inventory and alert admin if supplies are low.

Team Responsibilities:

  • Support coverage of and work wellness center area(s) as necessary.
  • Manage staff attendance in the facility to include breaks and adequate coverage. Call staff that are late/no-shows, etc.
  • Aid member services functions as needed (access control, point of sale, software).
  • Serve as in-house expert resource by providing accurate and current information regarding Wellness Center and university related programs and facilities.
  • Take the lead on Outpost operations (point of sale, knowledgeable of equipment).
  • Demonstrate leadership by attending work requests needs for large reservation set-up/tear-down, WHP programs and events (Welcome Weekend, Green Gallop, etc.).

Core Responsibilities:

  • Contribute to a positive and welcoming environment.
  • Work collaboratively with professional staff.
  • Model and ensure excellent customer service is being delivered at all times.
  • Demonstrate initiative for work functions.
  • Ensure safety is a priority, responding and reporting safety concerns immediately. Ensure proper reporting of accidents/incidents and verify reports are complete and turned into supervisor.
  • Abide by all University, Division and Department policies and procedures.
  • Ensure strong communication and follow good process.
  • Attend and complete all required Trainings and Team/Supervisor meetings.
  • Model the department core values (Honesty, Respect, Responsibility, Kindness) at all times.
  • Complete all cleaning and sanitation tasks as assigned to maintain a safe & healthy environment.
  • Must wear appropriate PPE as directed for specific tasks/duties.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements

  • Ability to provide leadership during emergency situations, disciplinary matters and facility conflicts.
  • Ability to enforce all of the facilities/employee policies and procedures.
  • Ability to handle stressful situations effectively.
  • Strong and personable communication skills.
  • Certification in CPR/First Aid/AED, or ability to be completed within 2 weeks of hire. (Training provided by the Wellness Center at no cost for employees).
  • Maintain knowledge and the ability to cover in all service areas.
  • Ability to work early mornings, nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Successful completion of a Criminal History Background Check
