Director INMED

Salary/Position Classification

• $102,700.00 - $106,600.00+/year Annual, Dependent on Experience, Exempt
• This position will work onsite at UND Grand Forks, ND campus

Purpose of Position

The Director of the INMED Program provides strategic leadership fundraising, operational oversight, and vision for advancing health equity and workforce development for American Indian Communities. This position is responsible for managing program administration, fostering community and tribal partnerships, and contributing to the academic mission of the University of North Dakota School of Medicine & Health Sciences (UND SMHS). The Director ensures compliance with federal grant requirements, promotes culturally grounded approaches, and supports initiatives that strengthen Indigenous representation in Health Professions.

Duties & Responsibilities

Program Leadership and Administration  

• Provide overall leadership, direction, and management of the INMED program.
• Supervise and support professional staff, including hiring, training, performance evaluation, and professional development.
• Ensure compliance with federal grant requirements, including program administration, evaluation, reporting, and continuous improvement.
• Provide leadership, guidance, and mentorship to participants and students in all INMED programs via presence and participation.
• Serve as a champion and advocate for INMED initiatives and objectives internally and externally.  

Committee and Governance Service  

• Serve on institutional, regional, and community-based committees related to medical education, workforce development, and American Indian health.
• Work collaboratively with the INMED Advisory Board and other governing bodies to improve program priorities and strategic planning.  

Community and Tribal Engagement  

• Support American Indian communities by strengthening relationships, communication, and trust between INMED, Tribal nations, and partner organizations.
• Ensure programs and activities are culturally grounded, community- informed, and Indigenous-centered approaches to learning.
• Work collaboratively with the UND Alumni Foundation to identify and pursue philanthropic opportunities that benefit INMED students and support programmatic objectives. 

Academic and Institutional Contributions  

• Contribute to the biomedical, medical, and health sciences missions of UND SMHS through service, collaborations and program development.
• Support culturally responsive program development and provides instruction or presentations on American Indian medical education and allied health training opportunities as appropriate.
• Participate in collaborative grant writing and interdisciplinary initiatives with institutional and community partners.
• Develop and implement strategic data capture, management and utilization practices to demonstrate INMED’s utility, success, and ROI.  

Required Competencies

• Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
• Demonstrated knowledge of federal grant compliance and reporting.
• Prefer familiarity with undergraduate or graduate medical education, curriculum, and
  admissions and/or general undergraduate admissions policies and procedures.
• Prefer familiarity with American Indian health issues, Tribal governance, and culturally
  responsive education.
• Prefer the ability to build and sustain collaborative partnerships with Tribal nations and
  community organizations

Minimum Requirements

• Master’s degree in Public Health, Health Administration, or related field.
• Five (5) years of experience in program administration, health education, or related leadership roles.
• Demonstrated experience working with diverse populations and commitment to improving health status of all.
• Successful completion of a Criminal History Background Check

Preferred Qualifications

• Doctoral degree (MD, PhD, DrPH, DO or equivalent) in a health-related discipline.
• Experience in academic or clinical research settings.
• Demonstrated proven track record of securing external funding and managing program
  level projects.
