Salary/Position Classification

  • $17.85-$20.00 hourly, Non-Exempt (Eligible for overtime)
  • 40 hours per week
    • Typical Shift 12:30pm - 9:00pm
  • This position will work onsite at UND Grand Forks, ND campus

Purpose of Position

The purpose of this position is to provide the highest quality service to customers in the service and dining room areas in dining service operations. This may include but is not limited to: serving food, maintaining cleanliness, and communicating with customers. The position works primarily in residential dining operations but may also work in retail operations and catered events on or off premises. This position is a front of the house position that has a high level of direct customer contact. This position works closely with student employees to ensure quality products and service are provided for customers.

Duties & Responsibilities

Maintains cleanliness of the dining room

  • Insures cleanliness of the dining room by cleaning and sanitizing tables during service times
  • Wipe down chair and booth seats
  • Remove food and other debris from the floor, may require the use of a vacuum cleaner, hokey sweeper, or broom
  • Wiping down and stocking flatware counters
  • Removing outdated table tents and cleaning holders

Maintain Service Areas

  • Keeps all service areas clean and presentable
  • Insures the serving lines and salad bars are stocked and replenished, rotating food to insure freshness
  • Review the set-up of the condiments, beverages, breads and chips and replenishes as needed
  • Prepares sample plates of correct portions
  • Follows all policies and procedures for special diets
  • Answers student’s questions regarding Dining Service’s policies, procedures and offerings

Supervision

  • Assigns part-time staff students (scheduled by the student management staff) to their specific line positions and responsibilities
  • Directs assigned staff in the orderliness and cleanliness of the dining room and service lines.

Assists with the execution of all catered events and theme meals

  • Works catered events, (wing parties, coffee hours, luncheons, dinners, and receptions)
  • Packs food and supplies
  • Sets up functions

Required Competencies

  • Desire excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Must be able to stand for 3-4 hours at a time and move 35 to 45 lbs
  • Demonstrated dependability
  • Good interpersonal, communication, prioritizing, organization, and problem-solving skills 
  • Strong Customer Service skills with an emphasis on student customers. 
  • Ability to count money and do basic math.
  • Experience with training student employees and cross training fulltime staff with like positions 
  • Proven record of the ability to maintain correct records
  • Have an optimistic attitude, high degree of integrity, and a strong work ethic

Minimum Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Six months POS Cash handling, credit card experience
  • One-year customer service experience
  • Successful completion of a Criminal History Background Check

Preferred Qualifications

  • Two years foodservice experience focusing on customer service.
  • One-year food production in either quick service or large quantity
  • Data Entry, Spreadsheet, CBORD OMNI computer system experience.
  • NRA ServSafe Certified.
