Purpose of Position

Culinary Corner Instructors will deliver cooking demonstrations while emphasizing research and nutritional principles to the UND and Greater Grand Forks community in a fun and applicable way. Instructors will demonstrate healthy food choices and proper preparation methods as well as safe food handling procedures.

This is a part-time, non-benefited position. Only UND students are eligible to be hired in this position.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Create and develop lesson plans for scheduled programming.
  • Purchase groceries for scheduled programming.
  • Deliver cooking demonstrations and nutrition information for scheduled programming in an entertaining and applicable manner.
  • Research and prepare prior to each class. This includes but is not limited to recipe research, lesson plans, and purchasing supplies for those classes.
  • Set up and clean up kitchen area before and after sessions.
  • Supervise and instruct during special events and/or group rentals.
  • Act as a kitchen assistant for outside/volunteer instructors.
  • Assist with marketing of the Culinary Corner events and programs.
  • Assist with nutrition/wellness outreach as needed.
  • Complete all cleaning and sanitation tasks as assigned to maintain a safe & healthy environment.
  • Must wear appropriate PPE as directed for specific tasks/duties.
  • Actively participate in meetings/training for Team Health & Wellness and Culinary Corner as required.

Minimum Requirements

  • Proficiency with utilizing basic kitchen equipment.
  • Basic nutrition and cooking knowledge.
  • Strong communication skills and a personable attitude.
  • High level of experience with using Microsoft Word and other computer applications, as well as the ability to perform basic office duties.
  • Ability to multi-task in a kitchen, which could include but is not limited to food preparation, talking through the steps of food preparation, emphasizing healthy choices while cooking, and following all food safety policies.
  • Certification in CPR/First Aid/AED, or ability to obtain within 2 weeks of hire. (Training provided by the Wellness Center at no cost for employees)
  • Successful completion of a Criminal History Background Check

In compliance with federal law, all persons hired will be required to verify identity and eligibility to work in the US and to complete the required employment eligibility verification form upon hire. This position does not support visa sponsorship for continued employment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Currently hold or pursuing a major or minor in Dietetics or Nutrition,OR have experience in a culinary-related field.
  • General understanding of the nutritional requirements for healthy adult populations and the ability to apply that knowledge to answer audience questions.
  • ServSafe Certification.
  • Experience or knowledge in dietary restrictive diets.
