Purpose of Position

This is a part-time, non-benefited position. Only UND students are eligible to be hired in this position.

The School of Graduate Studies is hiring a work study position for 5-10 hours a week for the academic year to assist with social media, communications, and event support.


This position is located at the Gershman Graduate Center and provides operations assistance to ensure the daily event and general operations of the GGC go smoothly. This role also provides social media and administrative assistance and event day support for graduate activities coordinated by the School of Graduate Studies.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Assist with ongoing communication plans and postal mailings
  • Assist with creating, filming, editing, and scheduling content for social media platforms
  • Provide administrative assistance and event day support for graduate events and activities coordinated by the School of Graduate Studies
  • Regulate and monitor service, safety, and security of the Gershman Graduate Center by walking rounds, responding to issues and questions, and completing reports
  • Assist with maintenance of coffee machine and grandfather clock and keep a clean and neat appearance of lounge, meeting rooms, hallways, and storage areas
  • Assist with event set-ups and technical requirements, furniture, and equipment
  • Execute emergency procedures (such as building evacuations and medical emergencies) 
  • Assist with maintaining a welcoming and approachable environment for users of the Gershman Graduate Center by providing superior service to guests
  • Relay all pertinent information/issues to supervisor and staff members as appropriate
  • Other duties as assigned

Minimum Requirements

  • Must be a minimum of junior or senior status for the 2024-2025 academic year
  • Must be able to work at least two hours on Wednesday mornings before Noon this Fall
  • Must be currently enrolled in a communications, arts, humanities, business, or social sciences major or program
  • At least three months of customer service experience
  • Schedule of hours is based on need for event support and building coverage and will be planned two weeks at a time. Student needs to be willing and flexible to adjust schedule as needed for graduate events hosted by the Graduate School and/or to assist with building services.
  • Must be willing to work occasional evenings to assist with staffing needs for the facility
  • Must have accepted a Federal Work Study award from the Office of Student Finance
  • Enrolled in a minimum of 6 credits for the employed academic semester
  • Successful completion of a Criminal History Background Check
