Purpose of Position

The mission of the College of Nursing and Professional Disciplines (CNPD) is to provide excellent and collaborative education, scholarship and service to advance human well-being for all, with an emphasis on rural and underserved populations.

The University of North Dakota's CNPD is comprised of the departments of Nursing, Nutrition and Dietetics, and Social Work as well as the Children & Family Services Training Center. For this position, the graduate nursing department seeks a full-time, non-tenure track Clinical Assistant Professor who will be appointed as the Psych-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner Track Director.

The PMHNP Track Director has a primary responsibility to provide leadership for the overall planning, organization, and evaluation of the PMHNP Program. This faculty member works collaboratively with administrators and faculty in assuring the provision of a high-quality academic program. The Graduate Track Director of the PMHNP track is a member of the Nursing Graduate Council. The director is under the supervision of the Chair of the Graduate Nursing Department and is responsible for assuring that standards and policies of the School of Graduate Studies are met.

This is an on-campus position, with the potential for limited hybrid flexibility. For candidates who wish to pursue or maintain clinical practice in the Grand Forks, ND region, the CNPD may provide flexibility to support that work while ensuring strong on-campus engagement.

Duties & Responsibilities

• 50% - Teaching and Advising Students in the PMHNP track (includes advising independent study projects). Potential courses to be taught include:
  • NURS 538 Psychiatric Diagnostic Reasoning
  • NURS 583 Individual Therapy
  • NURS 584 Group and Family Therapy
  • NURS 564 Psychopharmacology
  • NURS 588 Management of Psychopathology I
  • NURS 589 Management of Psychopathology II
  • NURS 598 Advanced Clinical Practicum
• 40% - Serve as Track Director for the Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner Track
  • Provide leadership for curriculum development, implementation & evaluation of the PMHNP track
  • Promote development of the PMHNP program at the local, state and national level
  • Maintain all pertinent records for the PMHNP program as required
  • Serve as program track representative at various meetings
  • Report applicable measures as part of the college assessment plan
  • Participate in inter-professional collaboration as relevant
  • Complete program grant applications to support the track as applicable
  • Assist in the recruitment of students to the track
  • Communicate with prospective PMHNP students
  • Make recommendations to the graduate school on decisions regarding admission to the track
  • Serve as academic advisor and develop plans of study for students in the track
  • Guide and monitor program progression of PMHNP students
  • Work on collaboration with clinical placement team to secure clinical practicum sites for PMHNP students
  • Assist with recruitment, mentoring and evaluations for faculty teaching in the PMHNP track
  • Provide guidance to course faculty to resolve student issues
• 10% - Service to the University, College and/or Department Specific duties will be coordinated with the department chair.

Minimum Requirements

• Doctoral degree in nursing
• Certified as a Family Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner across the lifespan
• Unencumbered nursing license
• Ability to obtain license in ND and other states as required
• Current clinical experience as a PMHNP
• Successful completion of a Criminal History Background Check
