Childcare Teacher Assistant - Part-Time

Salary/Position Classification

  • $17.00 Hourly
  • 17.5-20 hours per week
  • Schedule: 7:30am - 11:00am OR 2:00pm - 5:00pm

Purpose of Position

UCLC is seeking experienced and talented applicants to work under the supervision of the Center Director, Assistant Director and the Early Childhood Education (ECE) Services Supervisor II. The childcare teacher assistant provides support to the ECE Services Supervisor II in the care and active supervision of children 18 months to age 5 years.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

  • Assist the teacher in maintaining a developmentally appropriate classroom environment and supporting the planned educational experiences while focusing on developing caring and respectful relationships with all children and their families.
  • Assist in maintaining the health and safety of the environment and the children. 
  • Maintain professional/ethical conduct by working respectfully and professionally with a team of colleagues and UND Field experience students, participating in professional development opportunities, and engaging in self-evaluation.

Required Competencies

  • Computer literate
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Excellent oral/written communication skills
  • Knowledge of child development and developmentally appropriate practices in early childhood.

Minimum Requirements

  • Early Childhood Certificate from a vocational or technical school

 OR

  • 40 hours of professional Early Childhood professional development preparation including 10 hours of training in each North Dakota Core Competency Area: Families/Communities, Program Planning/Evaluation, and Professional Development and Leadership (Must be delivered by an Early Childhood agency such as: Head Start, Growing Futures or US Military)

 OR

  • One 3 credit college course directly applicable to one of the following ND Core Competency Areas: Families/Communities, Program Planning/Evaluation, and Professional Development and Leadership

In addition to the following:

  • 1 year of work experience in Early Childhood Education
  • Successful completion of a criminal history records check.
  • Successful completion of the ND Department of Health & Human Services Criminal History Fingerprinting Background Check
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Upon being hired; must complete CPR/First Aid/AED Training & ND Growing Futures basic childcare course.

In compliance with federal law, all persons hired will be required to verify identity and eligibility to work in the US and to complete the required employment eligibility verification form upon hire.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate's in early childhood education or child development Certificate (CDA).
