Aviation Maintenance Assistant

Purpose of Position

This is a part-time, non-benefited position. Only UND students are eligible to be hired in this position.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • This position provides essential support to certified A&P mechanics in the maintenance, repair, and inspection of aircraft. Responsibilities include:
    • Preparing and organizing tools, parts, and equipment for maintenance tasks.
    • Assisting with routine service work such as oil and filter changes.
    • Cleaning, lubricating, and servicing aircraft components.
    • Supporting mechanics in the assembly and disassembly of aircraft systems and structures.
    • Maintaining a clean and safe work environment.
    • Following all safety protocols and instructions from supervising mechanics.
    • Moving aircraft in and out of the maintenance hangar as necessary
    • Returning shop tools, support equipment, and expandable materials to inventory control at the end of the shift.

Minimum Requirements

  • Prior mechanical experience required.
  • Must have a driver's license.
  • Successful completion of a Criminal History Background Check
  • Ability to work efficiently and collaboratively with others.
  • Flexible schedule and willingness to adapt to workload demands.
  • Must provide own set of basic hand tools (list will be provided).
    Required Tools:
    • Standard pliers
    • Side cutters
    • Water pump pliers (Adjustable Joint Channel Pliers)
    • Needle-nose pliers
    • Safety wire twisting pliers (Harbor Freight acceptable)
    • Screwdrivers (flathead and Phillips)
    • Combination wrenches, ¼ in. through ¾ in.
    • 1 in. wrench or socket (for oil filter removal)
    • ¼ in. standard socket set
    • ⅜ in. standard socket set
    • 7/8 in. deep well socket (for spark plugs)

In compliance with federal law, all persons hired will be required to verify identity and eligibility to work in the US and to complete the required employment eligibility verification form upon hire. This position does not support visa sponsorship for continued employment.
