Purpose of Position

The Associate Residency Program Director will assist the Residency Program Director and Department in the UND SMHS-led objectives of maintaining ACGME accreditation and enhancing behavioral health workforce in our state. The addition of this 0.1 FTE position is a necessary element in the ACGME Common Program Requirements.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Assisting the Residency Program Director in preparation for the anticipated decennial accreditation visit. Service on other committees/projects as requested.
  • Along with the Program Director, providing formal and informal performance feedback to residents, and assisting the Program Director in compliance with due process and grievance procedures.
  • Along with the Program Director, overseeing/ensuring the quality of both clinical and didactic education at sites. Ensuring compliance of policy and completion of Milestones 2.0 and upgrading within the MedHub education management system.
  • In addition, expected to serve as a competent, ethical role model to trainees and peers.
  • Other academic duties as may be assigned by the Program Director or Chairman of the Department. 

Required Competencies

  • Educational Leadership: Assists the Program Director in providing strategic leadership for residency curriculum development, implementation, and continuous quality improvement in alignment with ACGME Psychiatry Program Requirements.
  • Accreditation & Regulatory Oversight: Assists the Program Director in ensuring sustained ACGME accreditation through effective program evaluation, milestone assessment, reporting, and site visit preparedness.
  • Faculty Leadership & Development: Fosters a culture of educational excellence and accountability.
  • Resident Assessment & Advancement: Along with the Program Director, provides formal and informal performance feedback to residents, and complies with due process and grievance procedures.
  • Clinical Training Oversight: Maintains Assists the Program Director in maintaining high quality, ethical, and supervised clinical learning environments across training sites.
  • Professionalism, Wellness, & Learning Environment: Promotes professionalism, psychological safety, and resident well-being within the learning environment.

Minimum Requirements

  • M.D./D.O. eligible for license to practice in North Dakota
  • Board certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology
  • Graduate of approved residency in Psychiatry
  • Five years’ minimum practice required
  • Three years’ teaching experience required
  • DEA certification
  • Must include letter of interest and qualifications for the position, curriculum vitae and 3 professional references. 
  • Successful completion of a Criminal History Background Check

Preferred Qualifications

  • Extensive knowledge of ACGME standards
  • Clinical Faculty Appointment at UND SMHS in the Department of Psychiatry and
    Behavioral Science
  • Current practice in a major healthcare system
