Salary/Position Classification

  • $48,700 - $51,248 annual, Exempt
  • 40 hours per week
  • This position will work onsite.

Purpose of Position

The purpose of this position is to assist the Director of Strength & Conditioning with all aspects of a Division I strength and conditioning training program. This position provides comprehensive assistance to the UND Athletics Department and assigned teams. This position will provide instruction to assigned teams that includes teaching proper skills and techniques, teaching basic physical health concepts to include nutritional education, teaching team and individual leadership concepts/skills, as well as providing general safety instruction. Must have a commitment to compliance with all NCAA rules and regulations. Must provide support & encouragement, and ensure the safety and well-being of the student-athletes.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Instruction specific to the teams assigned.
    • Assist with developing and promoting all facets of the University’s strength training program.
    • Design all instructional/training in-season/off-season strength & conditioning programs specific to assigned teams and individuals.
    • Collaborate with sport coaches and sports medicine staff to optimize athlete health, wellness, development, and performance.
    • Teach basic physical health concepts (to include nutritional education) specific to assigned teams and individuals.
    • Provide instruction related to team and leadership concepts/skills specific to assigned teams and individuals.
    • Provide general safety instruction for all activities in which the team and/or individuals participate. Specifically instruct student-athletes on safe training and exercise techniques.
    • Provide support and encouragement to promote the mental well-being of the student-athletes.
    • Serve as a role model and demonstrate a professional working relationship with student-athletes.
    • Assist as needed with the ordering, stocking, and disseminating nutritional post-workout products to assigned teams and individuals (including the nutrition center).
    • Assist with strength and sport camps and clinics as needed and assigned.
    • Assist with facility and equipment maintenance.
    • Follow all NCAA, Conference, & UND Rules and Regulations. 
    • Participate in on-campus recruiting visits for teams and individuals assigned. 
  • Social media, public relations & fundraising
    • Contribute to the social media presence for the strength and conditioning instructional program.
    • Develop community support for the program and participate in Athletics department and fundraising activities, as assigned.
    • Serve as a role model and demonstrate a professional working relationship with student-athletes, staff, administration, alumni, and general public.

Required Competencies

  • Must have effective professional working relationship with student-athletes, staff, administration, alumni, and general public.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and organizational skills.
  • Excellent computer skills.
  • Must have commitment to NCAA compliance and follow all NCAA, Conference, and UND rules and regulations.
  • Must provide support and encouragement and ensure the safety and well-being of the student athletes including having a valid driver’s license.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Exercise Science/Kinesiology or Wellness or similar field.
  • 2 years collegiate Strength & Conditioning work experience as a Graduate Assistant, Part-time/Paid intern, or Full-time employee.
  • Certified Strength & Conditioning Specialist/Coach (CSCS), or Strength & Conditioning Specialist/Coach (SCCC). Must show proof in application materials.
  • First Aid/CPR/AED Certified (all three). Must show copies of certification cards.
  • Experience instructing student-athletes on safe training and exercise techniques.
  • Valid Driver’s License.
  • Successful completion of criminal history background check (CHBC).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree.
  • Experience working with basketball, volleyball and/or football student-athletes at the collegiate level.
  • Strength & conditioning work experience at the NCAA Division I level.
  • Collegiate playing experience as a student-athlete (any sport).
